Too Late To Love Me I Already Left With His Twins (Lydia and Dave) novel Chapter 19

A promise

Lydia POV

I almost didn’t press it.

Not because I didn’t need him.

But because something in me already knew what this would feel like if it went badly.

Still, fever makes fools of all of us.

So I called.

It rang once.

Twice.

Three times.

Then he picked up.

“Lydia.”

Just my name.

Flat. Distracted. Like he had answered out of inconvenience rather than concern.

And because my body clearly hated me, that one word almost made me cry.

A beat.

Then she laughed softly.

“Yes,” she said. “And he’s busy.” 2

Click.

The line went dead.

I stared at the screen.

For a few seconds, I didn’t move.

Didn’t blink.

Didn’t even think.

Must sat there on the bathroom floor with the phone in my hand and that one stupid, humiliating fact sitting like a stone in my chest.

I had called. I
