Too Late To Love Me I Already Left With His Twins (Lydia and Dave) novel Chapter 276

Anna POV

So I stepped closer.

“Lydia?”

She looked at me for another few seconds.

Then she frowned.

“Wait.”

My heart jumped.

“Yes?”

“Are you one of the people who came earlier?”

I blinked.

“What?”

She pointed vaguely toward the door.

“I saw you dragging those two children outside.”

“Oh.”

Right.

Of course.

She didn’t remember me.

She remembered seeing me.

That was all.

“I’m sorry,” she continued, looking genuinely confused. “I don’t mean to sound rude. I’m just trying to understand what’s happening.”

“No, no, it’s okay.”

“Are you friends with them?”

I opened my mouth.

“I…”

Lydia looked at me carefully.

“Because I’m honestly not pranking you guys.”

I almost laughed.

Not because it was funny.

Because I didn’t know what else to do.

“I know.”

“I really don’t know those kids.”

“I know.”

“Even those pictures you showed me…”

Her eyes drifted toward the phone Dave had left on the side.

“I don’t know. They feel fake.”

“Fake?”

“Yeah. Maybe they’re edited. Photoshopped or something.”

I stared at her.

“You think the pictures are photoshopped?”

“I don’t know what to think.”

She sighed, looking exhausted.

“That’s the problem. I don’t know anything.”

There was something about the way she said it that made me stop trying to correct her.

She wasn’t being difficult.

She wasn’t pretending.

She was genuinely terrified.

“I don’t think I’m the mother they’re looking for,” she continued quietly. “And I’m telling you this because you’re a woman, so maybe you might understand how to explain it to them better than I can.”

I swallowed.

“They look like really sweet kids.”

“They are.”

“I can tell.”

She glanced toward the door.

“I just don’t want to hurt them.”

I didn’t know what to say to that.

Because that was Lydia.

Even without remembering them, some part of her was already worried about hurting them.

“They’re cute,” she added.

I almost smiled.

“They are.”

“Really cute.”

“They know.”

She gave me a small smile.

“But it’s fine. If they need somewhere to stay, I mean…”

I raised an eyebrow.

“What?”

“I could keep them.”

I stared at her.

“Keep them?”
