Chapter 104
I shook my head. “All the other men you assigned are still around. You even put someone to protect Celeste, like I asked. You have been by my side for days. I am sure your business is suffering. Go and focus on it.”
“Maybe tomorrow,” he said. “Tonight, I will stay by your side. Just to be safe and make sure nothing happens.
I reached out and tapped his shoulder. “That is why you are the best, Sparrow. Reliable to the end
After I left the company, I went back to my hotel room. The suite was large and cold and empty, and I lay on the bed staring at the ceiling, my mind circling back to Celeste.
I had made up my mind now. The danger was gone. There was no need for me to hide anymore. I could be out in the open, which meant I could meet with Celeste. I would tell her that she did not have to worry anymore, that everything was finally falling into place.
She did not know yet about what had happened, about Benjamin’s son, about the danger that had been neutralized. So if this was what she really wanted, if walking away from me was what she needed to do to find peace, then I would let her go. But I needed to see her first. I needed to look her in the eyes and
know for sure.
I planned to surprise her. Show up at Helix Research Laboratory or somewhere else she would not expect me to be. I wanted to see the look on her face when she realized I had come for her.
I was still lost in thought, the night deepening around me, when my phone rang again. Sparrow.
“What is it?” I answered.
“I just got an interesting call,” he told me. “My second at The Den just informed me that Seraphine is over there, desperately asking to see me.”
I raised my brows. “Impressive. She must have connected the dots. Must have found out that you are linked to me somehow.
“I figured,” Sparrow said. “I wanted to find out if it was okay with you. If you want me to go see her.”
“Why would I stop you? She is clearly trying to use you to get to me. She has gone all out to try to see me, even going to meet Celeste. So if she is looking for you, she is hoping you will be her way in.”
“What do you want me to do? If she asks to see you, how should I handle it?”
I thought about it for a moment. The truth was, I did not care much one way or the other. But there was something I needed to give her. Something that would make everything official. And if Seraphine was offering herself up on a silver platter, I could use this.
“If she asks you to arrange a meeting,” I said, “make the arrangements. The sooner I see her, the sooner I can get it over with.”

“Okay, but if I just do everything for her free of charge, would that not look strange?”

Free? Who said anything about free? People always pay for your services, do they not? You can have her pay for it too.”
Sparrow chuckled on the other end of the line. “You do know that people pay me in different ways, right? Not just with money, and…”
“Sparrow,” I cut him off. “We both understand each other. If she offers herself to you, knock yourself out She is low-hanging fruit anyway. Just do not mistake her for a prize. Have fun.”
