Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 129

Chapter 129

How was I to know that Dominic, sweet, gentle, devoted Dominic, was capable of such cold and calculated cruelty?

And the worst part was that I could not fight back. He had money, influence, lawyers who were paid to anticipate every move I might make. I had signed willingly, without coercion, without anyone holding me down. How could I win against a man who had thought of everything?

But something still nagged at me. Why did Dominic invest in Celeste’s laboratory? He was not close to Celeste in the past. In all the years we had been married, even though I visited Celeste regularly, Dominic had never once asked for her number or shown any interest in her existence beyond polite courtesy. So what was the five billion about? When did they become close enough for him to pour that kind of money into her company?

I did not have the energy to find the answer. I did not think there was anything in this world that could take me out of this bed, out of this room, out of this pit of despair I had fallen into. My heart was heavy, weighed down by the realization that I had been cheated and used by a man I thought was straightforward and honest, a man I thought would never hurt me, a man I thought loved me in a way that was pure and true.

And then Julian’s call changed everything.

I sat up so fast the room spun.

I should have said no when Julian asked. I should have stayed in bed and let the world burn without me. But my feet were already moving, already carrying me to the door, my heart pounding with something that was not quite hope and not quite dread but lived in the space between them.

And when I got there and looked at them on that balcony, locked together with Dominic’s tongue in Celeste’s mouth and her fingers in his hair, I could not control the tears that ran uncontrollably from my eyes.
