“Why, Celeste?” Julian’s voice was hoarse, broken, the anger giving way to something that sounded almost like pain. “Why did you do this to me? Was it because of money? I would have done anything for you, even given up my life. Why did you betray my trust so blatantly and without remorse?”

I scoffed. “You are going to have to be specific, Julian, because I have no idea what you are talking about. How did I betray you?”

“Do not fucking play games with me!” he yelled, his voice cracking. “You had sex with Dominic Ford last night, your best friend’s husband. I saw you with my own two eyes and now you want to feign ignorance?”

“I knew it!” Riley suddenly spoke up, her voice shrill. “I knew that man was no handyman. He was Dominic Ford and you fucked him right here in this house. I heard all your filthy moans.”

I chuckled, the sound low and amused. “There seems to be some confusion here, Julian. I have never denied having sex with Dominic. I admit it. I have been having sex with him and trust me, he is so amazing in bed. But what I do not understand is, what is wrong with that?”

They all stared at me like I had grown three heads. Julian got up with the help of Riley and Elizabeth, his legs shaky, his face a

mask of confusion and rage.

“What are you saying?” he asked. “You do not see anything wrong with what you did?”

“Are you saying it is wrong to sleep with my best friend’s husband?” I asked, tilting my head. “Are you saying Dominic is wrong because he had sex with his wife’s best friend?”

Julian scoffed. “I cannot believe this, Celeste. Who on earth does not know that it is wrong for a wife to cheat on her husband? Dominic, that bastard, could have had any other woman but he had to go after my wife.”

“But you didn’t have a problem with going after his wife,” I said with a smile.

His expression faltered. The anger flickered, replaced by something else, something that looked almost like fear. He stared at me in surprise, his mouth opening and closing like he was searching for words that would not come.
