“Celeste, I hope this is not a dream or something you made up in your head. I hope you are not joking.”

“Why would I joke about something like this? Why would I spend the night in his house then?” I asked.

“Oh my God!” Pat exploded. “Did he look serious? Did he look like he meant it?”

“Well… this is how it went… I was actually about to have a conversation with him, you know, to tell him my intention for us to officially break up.

But my heart was beating so fast, and my legs were all jelly. He was standing in front of me and he looked so irresistibly hot, his body glistening with water from the shower, and I just lost it Pat. I just lost it. The horhy part of me took over and I ended up telling him I wanted to be with him instead.”

“You did what?” Pat asked, rising from her seat in surprise.

“Yeah. Shocking the things I can do, right?”

“Who are you and what has happened to Celeste?” Pat asked. “The Celeste I know would never confess to a man first.”

I just smiled. Then I told her everything. How his grandmother had shown up with Imelda. How I had tried to leave. How Dominic had begged me to stay and had confessed his feelings for me. And finally, how we had spent the night together, wrapped in each other, the world outside fading into nothing.

Pat listened with her mouth slightly open, her eyes never leaving my face. When I finished, she let out a low whistle.

“Wow. I did not see this ending this way. Celeste, I am very happy for you.”

“Really?” I asked. “I thought you were going to give me an earful and tell me not to trust him and all that.”

“I sincerely like Dominic Ford,” Pat said. “I mean, he invested in Helix, right? He didn’t have to. You were the one who came up with the idea for the affair. Dominic did not owe you anything, but still, he did all of that. So, if he is telling you that he loves you, he most likely does. Why would he lie about that? He has access to probably any woman he wants. You are lucky, my friend”

I smiled, warmth spreading through my chest. “Thank you.”
