Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 488

SERAPHINE

I was ready to take my chance.

The man who had delivered my salvation in that sealed bag was still standing in Emerson's living room, all sharp jaw and dark eyes and shoulders that looked like they had been carved by someone with excellent taste, and I had already decided he was going to be dessert. I crossed the room with my hips doing the introductions and reached for him with both hands, meaning to pull him down onto that couch and ride him until my legs forgot how to hold me.

He caught my wrists before my fingers could reach his shirt.

"No," he said, in that same deep, unhurried voice from the phone. "I don't do that."

I blinked at him, certain the pill had done something to my hearing. "You don't do what? Breathe? Because looking at you, I find it very hard to believe there is anything you don't do."

Something almost like amusement flickered across his face. "If you are interested, you can look for me at The Club tonight."

Then he walked out the door and left me standing in the middle of the living room with my mouth open and every nerve in my body on fire.

I stared at the closed door for a long moment. A small, sane voice in my head told me to let him go. The rest of me, the part that was now swimming in happy pills, told that voice to shut up. A man like that was worth a little effort. So I rushed to my room, showered, and made myself beautiful. I did my makeup with a hand that only shook slightly, chose the shortest dress in my wardrobe, and told my reflection that nothing as small as Emerson's contract was going to stand between me and the best night of my life.
