A Caged Songbird's Escape: Into the Arms of a Predator novel Chapter 677

"What do you mean he won't be coming home?"

The anxiety Elissa had just managed to suppress clawed its way right back up her throat. "Did something go wrong?"

If everything was fine, why was Nash returning alone?

There was no sign of Rowan or Evan.

Dark, terrifying scenarios began spiraling in Elissa's mind.

Nash heard the undeniable tremor in her voice and instantly realized she was panicking. He quickly waved his hands. "No, no! Nothing went wrong. Actually, the operation was a massive success."

"Right now, Boss is at the station with Miss Wilkinson and Mr. Rex," he quickly clarified.

Elissa studied his face. He didn't look like he was lying, but she was still skeptical. "You're not just saying that to placate me?"

She had nearly suffered a miscarriage recently. It was entirely possible Rowan had ordered his men to lie to her to protect her stress levels.

"I swear on my life."

Nash practically raised his hand to take an oath. "If you don't trust the Boss, you definitely trust Miss Wilkinson, right? If you're really worried, just give her a call."

Hearing Laurel's name finally grounded Elissa. She let out a shaky exhale.

"Okay. Then why did you come back early...?"

"I just came to grab some files," Nash said vaguely, already stepping past her. "Please, get some rest. I need to go find Ian."

Aside from Elissa, the only person with full clearance to enter Rowan's private study was Ian, who had been left behind specifically to guard the estate.

Elissa didn't press for details. As long as she knew Rowan was safe, nothing else mattered.

She just offered a soft warning. "Be careful out there."

She knew that Marcia was backed by Maya, and Maya was backed by a terrifyingly powerful syndicate.

"Understood. We'll be extremely careful, and we will protect the Boss with our lives."

Nash nodded deeply before sprinting up the stairs.

That night, Elissa tossed and turned, her sleep shallow and restless.

By the time the sun fully rose, flooding the room with morning light, there was still no sound from the driveway.

Beside her, Tanya watched her twist in the sheets and finally just sat up. "I don't have to go into the office today. Let's grab breakfast and go shopping. It'll help kill the time."
