Elissa nodded, letting the subject drop.
She had overthought the situation. Wyatt Crest wasn't a man who operated on sentimentality. Factoring in his sheer terror of crossing Rowan, there was zero chance he would risk his own neck to save Marcia.
Doing so would be a direct declaration of war against the Murphy Group.
An illegitimate son who had managed to carve out power within the bloodthirsty Crest family wasn't stupid enough to make that kind of suicidal mistake.
As soon as breakfast ended, Tanya received an emergency call from her law firm and had to leave immediately.
Elissa pouted, entirely reluctant to let her go. "We finally had a day to just relax and go shopping..."
"My dear,"
Tanya could tell her best friend's pregnancy hormones were making her unusually clingy, and she laughed softly. "I'm just going to the office to meet a client, I'm not moving to another country. If you miss me, just text me."
Elissa paused, realizing her dramatic mood swing made absolutely no sense.
Before, Tanya used to fly out of state for weeks at a time, and when Elissa lived alone at Vistapeak Gardens, she never thought twice about it.
Maybe... having too much free time was actually a bad thing.
Rex stood up smoothly, adjusting his cuffs with practiced indifference. "I'm heading back to Wilkinson Group. I can drop you off."
He delivered the offer flawlessly, making it sound like a completely casual afterthought.
Tanya paused for half a second, then pointed toward the driveway with a polite, untouchable smile. "Thank you, Mr. Rex, but I drove."
She gave Elissa a quick hug, rattled off a few reminders, and marched out the front door in her soft leather flats.
Her mind buzzing with the morning's revelations, Elissa turned to Rowan. "You two talk. I'm going to call Asher."
The second she stepped through the glass doors into the backyard, Rowan checked his watch, shot Rex a glacial look, and ruthlessly kicked him out. "Both the women are gone. Can you leave my house now?"
"..."
Already burning with frustration over getting utterly rejected by Tanya again, Rex glared at him, grinding his jaw. "Watch your mouth. I'm your brother-in-law!"
As if Rowan could ever forget.
Rowan obviously wasn't trying to push him into a blind rage. "Of course. How could I forget?"
Then, with absolute lethal precision, he asked, "So, when exactly is my brother-in-law going to figure out how to win my sister-in-law back?"
