5.Voucher

The mall as expected was loud when we got there, with people everywhere and bags swinging left and right. Also let not forget the scent of overly priced perfume mixed with fried food that coated the air.

Kaia and I had taken a spot at the corner of a seat inside Starbucks with two iced drinks in hand, shopping bag already scattered across our feets.

My drink, a dirty chai latte, and Kaia’s was chocolate which was topped with enough whipped cream to cause a medical emergency.

She takes a sip of her drink first, closing her eyes briefly as if to savor the taste. “Honestly, I won’t mind living here forever and forever,” she muttered. “Just eating every single thing on the menu, mainly my favorite. What an happy death that would be.”

I scoff at this, shaking my head. “You could do that anyway.”

“And what ever might you mean.” She asked with a small cute frown resting on her forhead.

“Well, you have the body of someone the universe forgot to punish.”

Her lips stretches into a smile. “That was weirdly kind of you, I think.”

“I wasn’t being kind but factual.”

She laughs under her breath, then lets out a sigh, before staring at the pastry in display longer than necessary. “Still, can’t help but wish I could eat whatever I want and not having to think about it.”

I rolled my eyes at this, taking a sip of my drink. “You literally eat like a trash compactor and somehow manages to stay built like a model, so please stop pretending you suffer. My tone comes out bitchy but she knew there was no edginess to it.

Kaia smirks, playing along. “Jealous?”

“Deeply.” This makes her laugh again as the conversation settled for a second or two, the noise from the mall was more than enough to fill the silence between us.

Kaia takes another sip of her drink, glancing over the lid at me. “So,” she starts off slowly this time, there was a hint of amusement dancing in her eyes, “you finally got the golden boy genius to cooperate.”

“Golden boy is a bit farfetched.” I snorted at that, making her laugh. Leaning back slightly in my seat as I stirred my drink. “Besides I saw an opening, and took it.”

“Why does that sound like you actually blackmailed him into saying yes.”

“I won’t say blackmail persey,” I shrugged my shoulders. “But I did apply a bit of pressure.”

“That sounds like the same thing to me.” I smirked at this, as she tilted her head to the side for a moment, before adding. “Anyways you don’t have to worry anymore about getting your grades up now that he has agreed to help you.”

“Yep.” I hummed.

“But seriously,” she carried on, tapping lightly on her cup, “what would you have done if he had said no for the third time.”

I take another sip of my drink, batting my lakes at her, before answering. “Let’s seek.” Tilting my head to the side as I pretend to think about it. “Would have definitely used you as my last resort.”

“Well excuse you…” she says, pretending to look offended.

Chapter 14

“What.”

“Are you forgetting we have been friends since like forever.”

“Totally haven’t forgotten anything,” I repelied way too sweetly. “Just me acknowledging the reality of things.”

She scoffs at this. “I love you.”

“Aww.” I touched my chest, being all dramatic with my response.

She give a look that said she wasn’t don’t, as she carried on. “Like I saying, as much as I love and adore this beautiful friendship we have, there is no reality where I would have successfully manage to tutor you on anything without having to loss my sanity.”

“Okay…rude.” I gave a sassy eye roll, “fair point, but rude.”

“Also,” she continues, ignoring me. “I’m not even a part of the tutoring program, I would have been useless.”

“Also,” she added, pointing at me, “I’m not even part of the tutoring program. I would’ve been useless.”

I nodded, acting all serious. “Exactly why you were plan Z.”.

“Hah, unbelievable.” She shakes her head, while I smirk into my drink.

There was a brief silence that fell between us as Kaia leaned forward, a look of curiousity flashing in those eyes of hers..

“Quick question though,” she said, “how did you actually convince him to say yes?”

My lips parted, but no words came out, and for once Insidnt have a smart answer ready. Thankfully, before I could dodge her question, a voice slid in smoothly from behind us, doing it for me.

“Well, well, well, well.”

Kaia and I both turned at the same time to find Elias Bennett standing there with the usually perfect posture, effortless grin and that infuriating aura of a boy who had never been told ‘no’

But what was the highlight of this moment had been Kaia’s reaction, and how her body instantly stiffen, her gaze shaper than a broken glass.

The irritation in her glance can be see even from miles away, enough to let you know that shit was about to go down.

The two of them together, was never a good thing, given the fact that they barely stand each other.

Elias leaned slighly against the table, his gaze flickering between us before settling on Kaia like she was the only person in the room worth entertaining.

“Sunshine,.,” he greeted lazily..

Kaia’s jaw tightens almost instantly. “Don’t call me that,”

“Why not?” he asked, his voice softening just enough to be annoying. “I think it suits you more.”

“It sounds like something you would call a toddler or a lost puppy.”

“Or..someone who’s always mad, mainly at me.” He adds lightly, getting a tight smile from Kaia, while he on the other hand looked to be enjoying the reactions he was getting from her.

“Have you ever thought of not speaking at all when near me, maybe then you wouldn’t have to worry about me being mad at you.”

“Ah..but we both know you love my voice.” He says, chuckling under his breath.

“As a background noise, that is. It’s the only way it can be less tolerable.”

Elias leaned closer to her even more like he didn’t want the rest of the word to hear what he had to say, and he mutters almost in a whisper. “Liar..”

There was a shift in the air between them, and as much as they tried to deny it, there was this tension between, one that was so thick, and strong and very much filled with restrain.

I certain if the restrain had been removed from them, they probably would be fucking right here on the table.

But then again this was my point of view since the two of them were too much of a pussy to admit that there was an

attraction between them.

So I did what any third wheeler at this moment will do. I leaned back in my seat, my hand folded over in my chest while the other that held onto my drink rested on top of it as I take a sip, watching the show before me.

Kaia leans closer, closing whatever little gap they had between them that I was certain they could feel the heat of each others breath. “Tell me? Do you ever get tired of pretending you’re charming, or is it a full time delusion?”

Elias tilted his head, his gaze flickering briefly to her lips, and damn he so badly wanted to kiss her. But then again, not my freaking business.

His lips curved up to the side, as his gaze drifted back to her. “Glad to know you think of me charming.” Her lips parted, ready to refute his words, but he cuts her off as he continues. “Why? Are you going to keep pretending like you do not notice me, or is that also a fully time delusion.”

There was a pause, his seemed to have landed a bit harder as Kaia’s eyes narrowed. While I take another slow sip of my drink, very much entertained.

Elias pulls back slightly, his gaze flickering down to her drink. “Still surviving on sugar, I see.”

“And you seemed to still be surviving on your very depleting ego.” She shoots back instantly.

His smile widened at this, his voice dripping low. “You’re fun when you’re angry, sunshine.” Kaia’s jaw tightened, as he moved away from her, standing in his fully height.

His eyes flickers to me briefly again. “Delilah.” I lift my cup in a silent acknowledgment. “Try not to get caught in her chaos.” he added casually, nodding towards Kaia.

I gave him an overly sweet smile. “You should know by now, chaos is my kind of thing.” I said, winking at him, and he

chuckles.

Kaia scoffs. “Don’t enable him, Deli.”

Elias smiles at this, his hands sliding into his pocket. “Take care, sunshine.”
