Chapter 622-2
“Wait.”
I knew Alexander.

I knew how easily he could become absorbed in work and forget about everything else around him. I also knew that when he said he wasn’t hungry, it didn’t necessarily mean he really wasn’t.
He had left the house early, and he had spent most of the day out. He had returned and gone straight to the office.
I had no idea whether he had eaten anything while he was away, but knowing him, I doubted it.
And now he was refusing dinner simply because he didn’t feel like eating for whatever
reason.
“I’ll take it to him,” I said.
Martha immediately handed me the tray.
“Yes, Luna.”
Martha didn’t say anything else. She simply gave me a small nod before turning and walking
away.
I stood in the hallway for a moment with the tray in my hands. I wasn’t entirely sure why I had changed my mind. But I didn’t want to overthink it.
I carried the tray down the hallway toward the office.
The closer I got, the quieter the house became. I could hear the faint sounds coming from inside the office, but I couldn’t make out what Alexander was doing.
I stopped in front of the door. I considered knocking, then I remembered what I had just
heard.
Martha had already tried to take the food to him, and he had sent her away. If I knocked, he might send me away before he even knew who was knocking.
I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. I simply opened the door and stepped inside.
Alexander was still in the office. He looked up briefly when he noticed me, but I didn’t say anything… Neither did he.

I walked past him and headed toward the lounge area.

The tray felt heavier than it actually was, perhaps because I was suddenly aware that I had chosen to bring it to him myself even though he didn’t want it.
I placed it on the table in the lounge.
ALEXANDER
I watched her as she placed the tray on the table. She didn’t say anything at first, but once
she was done, she looked at me.
“Martha said you refused to eat.”
I remained silent.
“I know you haven’t eaten all day,” she continued. “You can’t go to bed on an empty stomach. You should eat something.”
I glanced at the food. She was right. I hadn’t eaten anything since morning, and I was hungry. The problem was that I simply didn’t feel like eating.
Still, I didn’t want to refuse the food after Faye had brought it herself.
“You can leave it there. I’ll eat later.”
She nodded. “All right.”
Then she turned and left without another word.
I watched her disappear through the doorway before looking back at the tray.
I wasn’t sure what I had expected, but I hadn’t expected her to leave so easily. Perhaps I had thought she would stay for a while or at least say something more. Instead, she had accepted my answer and walked away.
She was still upset with me. I knew that much. And perhaps this was simply her way of giving me the distance she wanted without making another issue out of it.
Even so, I couldn’t ignore the small sense of disappointment that settled in. I wasn’t used to Faye being so indifferent toward me.
