Chapter 631-1
JASON
I lay on my back, staring at the ceiling while Alice continued talking beside me. She had been talking for several minutes, and I knew that because I had heard almost every word. I simply hadn’t been paying enough attention to respond to any of them.
“I am tired of this,” she said again, her voice edged with irritation. “I’m tired of people looking at de like I’m some kind of plaything.”
I remained quiet.
Alice shifted beside me.
“They gossip about me everywhere I go. They think they can whisper when I’m walking past them, as though I can’t hear them.”
I glanced at her briefly before looking back at the ceiling.
She was clearly angry.
“I’ve been putting up with it for long enough, Jason.”
sighed quietly. She wasn’t wrong. There had been more talk around the pack lately. Ever since the incident with Sage, whatever privacy Alice and I had once managed to maintain had disappeared completely. At this point, anyone with eyes and ears could probably figure out what was happening
between us.
Alice seemed to think that meant there was only one logical solution.
She turned toward me.
“And after what your dear Luna did to me right here in this house, everyone knows about us anyway.”
I
I didn’t respond.
The words brought back the scene almost immediately. The confrontation… the humiliation Alice had felt. The way Sage had made it painfully clear that she knew exactly what was going on.
Alice continued speaking.
“So why am I still staying here?”
I finally looked at her.
Chapter 631-4
She was watching me expectantly.
“You know what I’m asking.”
I still said nothing. Of course I knew what she was asking, and that was another reason why I
wasn’t in a hurry to respond.
“I want to move into the main house.”
I stared at her for a moment. When she didn’t get a response, she spoke again.
“The Alpha’s wing,” she clarified.
I looked away, distracted and irritated at the same time.
“Jason?”
“Hmm?”
Her voice tightened.
“Did you hear me?”
“Yes.”
“And?”
I rubbed a hand over my
“I heard you,” I said.
“Then say something.”
face.
I didn’t immediately answer.
My mind had already drifted somewhere else. Back to earlier that day. Back to Faye.
I still hadn’t completely figured out how I was supposed to feel about seeing her again.
I had known she was coming. I had known for days. That should have been enough time to prepare myself.
Apparently, it wasn’t.
The moment I had seen her standing there, I had forgotten every version of the conversation I had imagined in my head.
I remembered the way she had looked at me.
Calm and polite. She was completely unaffected.

Chapter 531-1
“Alpha Jason.” That was how she had greeted me.
Not Jason. Not the name she used to say so casually. Not even the familiarity I had once been accustomed to.
Alpha Jason.
