A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 656

Chapter 631-2

Pave had moved on, and so had I.

At least, that was what I kept telling myself.

“Jason.”

I barely heard Alice.

“Jason.”

I blinked.

She was staring at me now.

“What?” I snapped.

Her eyes narrowed.

“I’ve been talking to you.”

“I know. I heard you.”

“No, you didn’t.”

I frowned.

“I heard you, Alice.”

“Then why have you been staring at the ceiling for the last five minutes?”

I sat up slightly.

“I’m tired, Alice.”

Alice scoffed. “That’s convenient,” she said.

I looked at her, and she turned away from me, clearly irritated.

“I am trying to talk to you about something important, and you’re barely listening.”

“I said I heard you. Can we not fight over this now? I’m exhausted.”

“Oh, now you’re dismissing me.”

I didn’t answer… because she was right.

I had been dismissing her. Not because I didn’t understand what she was asking for. I understood perfectly.

Chapter 631-2

And I knew exactly why she wanted it.

She was tired of living in the shadows. She was tired of the looks and whispers. She wanted recognition: She wanted a place in the Alpha’s wing because, in her mind, that would make her position clear to everyone and give her some respect.

I couldn’t blame her for wanting that. But that didn’t mean I could give it to her.

Not now.

Not like this.

Our relationship was no longer much of a secret, but that didn’t mean I was ready to move her into, the Alpha’s wing. There were certain lines I still couldn’t cross yet.

And whether Alice understood it or not, moving her there would be crossing one of them.

It would change how everyone saw her.

It would change how everyone saw me. And it would certainly change how Sage would handle the

situation.

The last thing I needed was another confrontation with my Luna.

Not now. Not when everything else was already becoming complicated.

There were too many things happening around Silver Hollow.

And there was the possibility that we were heading toward something much bigger than a few isolated problems.

War was no longer an impossible thought. It was becoming a possibility I had to take seriously.

I couldn’t afford internal chaos. I couldn’t afford unnecessary conflict within my own house. And I certainly couldn’t afford to give Sage another reason to challenge me publicly.

Alice shifted away from me.

“So that’s it?”

I looked at her. “What?”

“Nothing.” Her tone made it obvious that it wasn’t nothing.

She turned her back toward me.

I stared at her for a moment. I knew her well enough to understand what she was doing. She wanted me to chase after her.

Chapter 631-2

Normally, I might have found it amusing. Tonight, I was too tired.

Still, I didn’t want her staying angry. I reached out and touched her shoulder.

“Alice.”

She didn’t turn around.

“I’m tired. I’ve had a long day,” I said.

“So have I,” Alice threw back at me.

!’sighed.

“I didn’t say you were wrong to ask,” I started.

She finally turned her head slightly, and I continued before she could respond.

“I understand what you’re asking for,” I added.

“Then why can’t you just do it?”

“Because I need to deal with a few things first.”

She frowned.

“What things?”

I sighed. “Things that have nothing to do with you.”

That wasn’t entirely true. Some of those things had everything to do with her. But I wasn’t going to explain all of that tonight.

I leaned closer. “Give me some time.”

She remained silent.

“I’ll think about what you said,” I added.

Her expression softened slightly.

“You promise?”

I nodded. “I said I’ll think about it.”

“That’s not a promise.”

I smiled faintly.

“It’s the best you’re getting tonight,” I said. And I meant it.

She rolled her eyes, but some of the tension had left her face. I reached over and kissed her. It was
