Chapter 642

FAYE

I found my father and Elder Vincent still standing together a short distance from the council hall. They appeared to be discussing something quietly, but the moment they noticed me approaching, their conversation came to an end.

I slowed as I reached them.

My father’s expression softened when he saw me, but I could still see the seriousness that had remained on his face since the meeting ended.

I looked between him and Elder Vincent.

“Father, what is going on?”

Neither of them answered immediately.

That silence alone told me that I had been right to come after them.

My father glanced briefly at Elder Vincent before looking back at me.

“Silver Hollow was supposed to deliver several shipments to North Ridge,” he began. “It was part of an agreement between the two packs, and North Ridge had already paid for the goods.”

I listened quietly.

He continued before I could interrupt.

“The shipments left as they were supposed to, but somewhere along the way, they disappeared.”

I frowned.

“Disappeared?”

My father nodded.

“They went missing. No one could account for them. We couldn’t determine exactly what happened to them or where they ended up.”

I stared at him, still trying to make sense of what he was telling me.

A shipment could be delayed. It could be damaged, it could be intercepted. There could be an accident along the route.

But disappeared?

That was different.

My father seemed to understand what I was thinking.

“And it wasn’t an isolated incident,” he added. “It happened with other shipments as well. North Ridge wasn’t the only pack affected.”

I remained silent.

The more he explained, the more serious the situation sounded.

“Conrad gave Jason time to rectify the matter,” my father continued. “He expected the missing goods to be recovered and delivered, or for Silver Hollow to find another way to fulfill the agreement.”

I slowly nodded.

“But the goods were never recovered,” I said slowly.

My father shook his head.

“No.”

I lowered my eyes for a moment. I could already see why the council had been so tense.

If a pack failed to deliver goods that another pack had already paid for, there would naturally

be consequences. But if it happened repeatedly, and no one could explain where the shipments had gone, then the situation would become much more complicated.

Elder Vincent, who had been quiet until then, finally spoke.

“And as if that wasn’t bad enough, the main storage house exploded.”

My head lifted immediately.

“The storage house?”

He nodded.

“Everything inside was destroyed.”

His expression was grim as he continued.

“All the supplies, weapons… equipment. Whatever the pack had stored there, including the ones that had been paid for, was burned to ashes.”

For several seconds, I simply stared at him. I didn’t know what to say.

The missing shipments had already been difficult enough to process, but this was something else entirely.

The main storage house was not some insignificant building that could simply be replaced.

It held supplies that the pack depended on in every way. Things that were especially important when a pack was already struggling.

My father’s face remained solemn.

“Silver Hollow is in debt now,” my father explained. “We lost a lot when the storage house was destroyed, and replacing everything has not been easy.”

I looked around the corridor as though I might suddenly see the pack differently.

Maybe I already had. The strange atmosphere I had noticed almost immediately after arriving.

It was all beginning to fit together. Silver Hollow wasn’t simply being overly cautious.

They were struggling. And I had walked into the middle of it without knowing anything.

Elder Vincent sighed.
