Chapter 648-2

It had built a reputation around supplying others.

That reputation had been one of its greatest sources of influence.

And now, according to everything I had heard that morning, the pack was struggling to supply itself.

“It isn’t just North Ridge,” I finally said.

Alexander was quiet.

“The missing shipments happened with other packs too.”

I moved toward one of the windows and looked outside.

“I don’t know how many shipments disappeared or exactly when all of it started, but apparently North Ridge wasn’t the only pack affected,” I said.

I took a breath.

“From what I understand, Silver Hollow was already trying to deal with the missing supplies

when something else happened,” I said.

“What happened?” Alexander asked.

I leaned my shoulder against the wall.

“The main storage house exploded.”

Alexander didn’t say anything.

“Everything inside was destroyed,” I continued. “At least, that’s what I was told. They said everything was burned to ashes.”

There was another pause.

I could almost picture Alexander processing the information.

“The storage house,” he repeated.

“The main one that contains all the important things,” I said. “Then they lost the supplies they had already managed to keep and could have fallen back on.”

I sighed.

“So many things went wrong at the same time,” I added.

The words sounded almost absurd when I said them aloud.

And somehow, Silver Hollow was expected to prepare for war while already managing to

keep itself running.

The more I thought about it, the less it felt like a series of unfortunate events. There were simply too many things happening at once.

Alexander was quiet for so long that I eventually wondered if the call had dropped.

“Alexander?”

“I’m here,” he said.

His voice sounded different… More serious.

“I don’t think all of this is happening by accident. I don’t think it’s a coincidence either.”

I frowned, waiting for him to explain it. I had thought about it too, but something about his

tone told me he had more to say.

“I don’t need anyone to tell me those events are connected.”

Something in my stomach tightened.

“What are you thinking?”

Alexander exhaled slowly.

“I’m almost certain Conrad has a hand in it,” he said.

I blinked.

For a moment, I didn’t understand what he meant.

“Conrad?”

“Yes.”

His answer came without hesitation.

I stared through the window.

The garden was visible from where I stood, and I could see my mother moving between the planting beds.

“Think about the timing. Multiple shipments disappear, Silver Hollow starts struggling to recover the losses, and then the major warehouse explodes.”

I listened as he continued.

“Then Conrad suddenly has a reason to threaten retaliation. He already has an unresolved dispute with Jason, and now Silver Hollow is in a position where it can’t easily meet its obligations or defend itself,” Alexander added.

I slowly folded my arms.

“But how would Conrad be involved? How could he have managed all that?” I asked.

“I’m not saying I know exactly how yet,” he said.

His voice remained calm.

“But I see two possibilities,” he said. “Either Conrad orchestrated the whole thing himself, including the missing supplies and the destruction of the warehouse, or he’s working with whoever is sabotaging Silver Hollow.”

I stared at the floor.

The possibility had never occurred to me.

Not once.

I had spent the entire day trying to understand whether someone inside Silver Hollow was responsible, whether an outsider had targeted the pack, or whether the problems were simply a terrible sequence of events.

I had considered sabotage. I had considered an insider.

I had even considered that someone might be deliberately targeting Silver Hollow’s supply

routes.

But Conrad himself?

That was different. My mind immediately began rearranging everything I had heard.

The failed transaction with North Ridge. The warehouse explosion.

Conrad’s refusal to negotiate. His threat to retaliate.

The fact that Silver Hollow was now too weak to respond properly.

If Alexander was right, then Conrad wasn’t simply taking advantage of an existing problem.

He could have helped create it.

I shook my head slowly.

I frowned.

Alexander’s voice remained measured, almost as though he were explaining something he had already considered from every possible angle.

“Jason is already dealing with a weakened pack. If someone keeps removing their resources while destroying what they have left, eventually they won’t have enough strength to resist.”

I said nothing.

“And then Conrad doesn’t even have to defeat Silver Hollow in an open fight.”

I swallowed.

“He only has to wait until they’re too weak to fight back,” he added.

The thought made my stomach twist.

I had been looking at the situation as a conflict between two Alphas.

Alexander was making me see something much larger.

If Conrad was responsible for the sabotage, then the dispute over the shipment might have been nothing more than the excuse he needed.

A reason to make demands. A reason to threaten retaliation. A reason to put pressure on Jason while Silver Hollow was already down.

I rubbed my forehead.

“But you’re not certain,” I said.

“No,” Alexander admitted. “I’m not.”

He was only looking at the circumstances and drawing the most logical conclusion he could.

Still, the possibility was unsettling.

I let out a quiet laugh.

It wasn’t because anything was particularly funny. It was simply difficult to believe how far Alexander’s mind had gone with the situation so fast.
