Beast World: From Villainess to Cub-Raising Chef novel Chapter 233

Chapter 233: Chapter 231: Running into an Old Acquaintance

Standing at the entrance to the interrogation room, Sai’er gave Bai Su a vicious smile. "In a little while, I’d like to see if that mouth of yours can still talk!"

He jerked the rope binding Bai Su’s hands, leading her inside.

The heavy doors opened to reveal a massive interrogation hall.

The hall was divided into smaller interrogation rooms by perfectly soundproof glass enclosures.

The hall was dark, its only illumination the faint light cast from within the small interrogation rooms.

Uniformed Beastmen were everywhere, marching prisoners forward.

Walking down the wide corridor, one could faintly feel the crunch of meat scraps and the stickiness of blood underfoot.

The air was thick with the stench of disinfectant and blood.

No sound escaped the interrogation rooms, but from the outside, one could see the people inside, their faces twisted in agony as they were beaten.

A glint of excitement flashed in Sai’er’s eyes as he watched the tortured individuals. He turned to look at Bai Su.

Bai Su met his gaze calmly.

He saw no trace of fear or terror in her expression. Suppressing his disappointment, he snorted, "Go on, keep pretending to be calm. You’ll be crying soon enough!"

"The farther in we go, the more terrifying the torture gets."

"Don’t be foolish enough to think death is the worst that can happen. In here, whether you live or die isn’t up to you."

"Perhaps if you kneel and say a few nice things, repent a little... Admit you were wrong, that you were blind to have offended me. Say you’re deeply remorseful for kicking me out of Lanton Laboratory, that you want to kneel and lick my shoes. If you do that, maybe I can put in a good word for you."

Bai Su scoffed. "You? Put in a good word for me? With a prisoner of my importance, you don’t even have the right to kick me. What leverage do you possibly have?"

"Are you going to use that pathetic bit of clout you have as a grunt for the Medical Alliance—the guy who guards doors and escorts prisoners?"

"You!" Sai’er’s face darkened, and he raised his hand to slap her.

But he couldn’t.

Bai Su was right.

A prisoner of her importance had to be sent to the very depths of this place, to be handled by the highest-ranking leaders of the External War Department. Small fry like him didn’t have the right to even touch her.

Sai’er ground his back teeth in frustration.

’Just you wait!’

’He was going to watch with his eyes wide open. He would see just how this bitch Bai Su would be tortured until she was broken, how she would be left wailing and begging for mercy on her knees!’

The two of them stopped before a massive steel door.

A scorpion was carved in bas-relief on the door, looking particularly unsettling in the dim light.

Sai’er held the terminal on his left wrist up to the access panel beside the door.

A few seconds later, the heavy steel door slowly began to rise. A scarlet light stabbed out from within, accompanied by an icy chill and the stench of blood.

When the door was fully open, it revealed a simple interrogation room.

This one was completely opaque.

The room was about 650 square feet. The wall on the left was covered with various implements of torture.

In front of the wall of instruments stood a simple desk, with files piled haphazardly on its surface.

A shadowy figure was dozing at the desk.

Seeing them enter, two people standing nearby quickly nudged the person at the desk.

The shadow stirred and clicked its tongue impatiently. "Piss off... I just got back. Trying to catch up on sleep..."

Bai Su raised an eyebrow. ’That voice sounds a little familiar.’

The two guards pushed the person sleeping on the desk again. "Boss, a prisoner’s here."

"Who the fuck is sending someone in at this hour?" The person at the desk finally cracked open a groggy eye from between their folded arms.

"Holy shit!" Upon seeing Bai Su clearly, the person was so shocked they instantly covered their face, launched themselves out of their chair, and hid under the desk.

Bai Su was confused. ’Definitely an acquaintance, then.’

The beating left Sai’er terrified, and he quickly prostrated himself on the floor, not daring to move.

From the side, Bai Su suddenly asked, "Have we met befo—"

Li Yue nearly bit her tongue in alarm.

She forced herself to sit down calmly and cleared her throat. "Don’t you try to cozy up to me. In here, the punishments are a little different from out there."

Impassively, Bai Su continued to stall for time. "Is that so? I’m quite curious. How are they different?"

’On her way here, she had secretly scattered spider silk. Under Yelias’s control, those threads should have already begun exploring and mapping the area.’

’All she had to do was stall for time.’

Li Yue thought for a moment, then pointed at Bai Su’s nose. "I hear you’re very famous in the Imperial City, that your cooking is unparalleled. I find that hard to believe. Why don’t you... show me what you’ve got. Let me see what you’re capable of."

Bai Su: "...Here?"

Li Yue: "Right here!"

Bai Su: "...Now?"

Li Yue: "Right now."

Bai Su narrowed her eyes. "You’re not by any chance one of my customers, are you? Just taking this opportunity to get a free meal?"

As if her thoughts had been exposed, Li Yue blustered, slamming a scorpion tail hard on the table. "What nonsense are you spouting? Me, need a free meal? Do you think I can’t afford to eat at your restaurant?!"

’She just can’t ever get a table, okay?’

’She’s stuck in the lab all day, and Bai Su only serves lunch.’

’By the time she gets off work and wants to go eat something good, there’s not even a shadow of Bai Su to be found at the restaurant!’

And so, inexplicably, Bai Su began to cook in the interrogation room.

Li Yue had her subordinates quickly set up a stove and brought out some readily available ingredients.
