Chapter 245: Chapter 243: The Commander’s Predicament

Bai Su’s expression darkened in the car. She asked Kong Ji, who was in the driver’s seat, "Do you recognize these soldiers? Who is this ’military commander’ they’re talking about?"

Kong Ji’s face was grim as well. "They must be Leader Lu’s uncles. Besides Lu Zhen Country, Leader Lu has several other uncles who are usually stationed at the border with their troops. They rarely return."

"Leader Lu has been away for too long recently. They probably caught wind of something and came back to the Imperial City."

Frowning, Bai Su got out of the car and strode forward, shouting for them to stop. She then had the Hidden Guards emerge from the shadows to put an end to the farce unfolding nearby.

When the soldiers present saw Bai Su, they were all stunned into silence.

They had been stationed at the border for too long. They were used to seeing males whose faces were chapped like cantaloupe skin by the wind and snow, and females from the border who were fiery, straightforward, and rugged, with thick brows and large eyes.

After a steady diet of coarse grains, their first glimpse of Bai Su—with her exquisite, radiant features and skin as fair and tender as a peach—left them dazed. For a moment, they thought a 3D model had been projected into reality.

It wasn’t until Bai Su frowned and repeated herself that they snapped out of it. "Who gave you the nerve to come here, destroying property and assaulting people?"

The squad leader was the first to recover. He looked Bai Su up and down, his eyes filled with a mixture of awe and ill intent. "You must be Bai Su... the Duke, right?"

Kong Ji quickly stepped in front of Bai Su, glaring at the man. "How dare you!"

The squad leader just chuckled and took out his smart device to make a call. "Hey, Boss?"

"Bai Su’s here. Yeah, the restaurant isn’t demolished. It was hard for us to make a move."

"Okay, okay, got it."

Meanwhile, Bai Su had her Hidden Guards help the beaten workers to their feet and shield them.

The restaurant was in a bustling area, and the commotion had already attracted a large crowd of onlookers. Many were filming the scene with their phones.

The squad leader leading the group approached with a lazy smile, gave a military salute, and said, "Duke Bai Su, greetings. I am a squad leader from the 2nd Regiment of the Lu Division. Our military commander requests your presence for a face-to-face discussion."

Kong Ji protectively shielded Bai Su, while Yan Qingya and Bi Yue quickly grabbed her arm, trying to stop her from going.

Bai Ruxin whispered a warning, "Susu, the Lu Division is a border unit. They’re not on the same level as the Imperial City’s nobles. They have a tough way of doing things and probably won’t play by the aristocracy’s rules. Be careful."

Bai Su nodded. "Alright. Lead the way."

Bi Yue grabbed her. "Are you crazy? Those soldiers look like trouble! Lu Tingyan isn’t here. Who’s going to protect you at the military headquarters? Those guys are like rabid dogs!"

The squad leader glanced at Bi Yue, a suggestive look in his eyes. "And would this esteemed female care to join us?"

His lewd expression was less an invitation and more like he was hitting on someone in a brothel.

Bi Yue immediately covered her nose and pulled Bai Su back. "God, what a stench! Where did this stray dog come from? Susu, don’t stand so close, you’ll catch fleas."

The smile on the squad leader’s face didn’t falter, but his eyes darkened.

Bai Su patted Bi Yue and the others reassuringly.

’In any case, this is just my Clone,’ she thought. ’I don’t have to worry about any danger.’

Bai Su took Bai Ruxin with her, leaving Yan Qingya and Bi Yue to handle the aftermath at the scene.

The squad leader’s armored military vehicle led the way, taking them all the way to the military headquarters.

Bai Su frowned slightly. She hadn’t been to the military headquarters since Lu Tingyan left.

’Since when did the military headquarters get some new commander? And his subordinates are this arrogant?’

When they arrived at the military headquarters’ office building, several pot-bellied males in suits were coming out. They gave Bai Su a perfunctory noble’s bow from a distance before walking away, their gazes unfriendly.

Bai Ruxin whispered an explanation from the side, "I recognize those men. One is the minister of the food safety department, and the ones next to him are directors from the country’s largest canned food and nutritional supplement developers."

Bai Su nodded slightly. She was starting to get the picture.

The squad leader led them to the third floor.

Kong Ji was stopped at the door of the conference room.

He was getting anxious.

Bai Su reassured him, "You don’t need to come in. I’ll call you if I need anything."

Kong Ji could only nod.

The atmosphere in the room instantly dropped to a freezing point.

The commander’s sharp gaze locked onto Bai Su’s face as he suddenly unleashed a powerful wave of spiritual power.

The oppressive spiritual power of a Level 9 male blanketed the entire conference room.

At the door, Kong Ji couldn’t help but break out in a cold sweat, looking worriedly at Bai Su.

The squad leader standing nearby looked at Bai Su as if she were a fool who didn’t know what was good for her.

Standing beside her, Bai Ruxin’s face turned deathly pale.

Her Level was not high; she couldn’t withstand such terrifying pressure at all.

Bai Su, however, remained unfazed, simply meeting his gaze calmly.

There wasn’t a trace of fear or panic in her eyes.

The commander continued to increase the pressure from his spiritual power, his eyes fixed on Bai Su with sheer aggression.

Beside her, Bai Ruxin let out a muffled groan and was about to fall to her knees when Bai Su caught her, subtly releasing her own spiritual power to envelop her.

A flash of shock crossed Bai Ruxin’s eyes.

’Has Bai Su’s spiritual power really become this strong?’

’She can even withstand such immense pressure?’

The commander sneered to himself, having no fondness whatsoever for this kind of female who put on a brave, pretentious act.

No one knew better than him what the females of the Imperial City were like.

They were vain, foolish, and arrogant. Raised in gilded cages, their entire world was no bigger than the mouth of a well, yet their shortsightedness made them believe they were truly the Empire’s treasures, superior to everyone else.

These pretty-but-useless types were the most fragile and incompetent. He could crush a whole pile of useless females just by lifting a finger.
