Sienna found the entire speech completely laughable.

Did he honestly believe she was standing here in one piece because of some search party he supposedly sent?

She scoffed, glancing down at his hand locked around her wrist before meeting his gaze.

He was significantly taller, forcing her to tilt her head up to look him in the eye.

The sun cast a shadow over his face, obscuring his expression in an unreadable gloom.

She curved her lips into an entirely apathetic smile. "Are you talking to me?"

Jarred's handsome features turned to stone, his dark eyes brimming with fury.

His grip tightened involuntarily. "Sienna, that is enough out of you."

"Enough?" Sienna repeated with a scoff. "I should be saying that to you.

If you're so powerful, why don't you charter a private vehicle just for her? You want to hijack public resources and expect the rest of us to step aside? By what right? Why does she get special treatment while everyone else is left to bleed?"

"You—!" Jarred's grip crushed down so hard her wrist throbbed. "Back down right now, and I'll let this go."

Sienna fought to pull away, but she couldn't break his iron hold.

She glared up at him, her gaze like daggers of ice. "What exactly do you call what you're doing right now? You're a lunatic if you think you can project your own mess onto me."

With a vicious shove, she pushed him away. "Get out of the way. Stop obstructing the rescue."

The undisguised contempt in her eyes completely infuriated the usually untouchable Jarred.

He clamped down on her wrist again, took a deep breath, and offered a compromise that sounded more like charity. "I'll allow two critically injured people to come with us. You pick them."

"Not a single person gets left behind," Sienna stared straight into his eyes, her words ringing out with absolute conviction. "The vehicle leaves at full capacity."

"Out of the question!"

They locked in a vicious standoff, sparks flying between them as neither refused to yield an inch.
