Betrayed by the Father Reborn in His Rival's Arms novel Chapter 163

Madeline's expression remained perfectly calm as she looked up. "Millicent, we aren't living in the dark ages anymore. Getting a divorce isn't the end of the world. Why shouldn't I leave him? You gave birth to eight sons, all of them Arthur's. And me? I don't have a single child. I spent five years raising his mistress's son, was tricked into falling down the stairs and temporarily paralyzed, and now Lucius has knocked someone up again. If you were in my shoes, could you tolerate this?"

Millicent was so furious she practically swayed on her feet. She ground her teeth. "Who's to blame for the fact that you can't get pregnant?"

"If you can't breed, then of course someone else is going to give me a grandchild! No matter where you take this argument, our family is in the right."

Millicent's attitude was overwhelmingly arrogant.

Madeline let out a sharp laugh. "In the right? If popping out illegitimate children left and right makes you 'in the right,' then I guess homewreckers aren't morally bankrupt, and bastards aren't bastards anymore. Is your version of 'being in the right' slapping the law and basic human decency in the face?"

The insult hit Millicent hard. "You really think you've grown wings, don't you? Where would you be without Lucius? Don't forget why we agreed to this marriage in the first place! You practically begged your way into this family."

"I'll admit I was blinded by love when I chose a piece of trash like Lucius. But Arthur, you are a man of your word. My marriage with Lucius is completely shattered. If you refuse to approve this divorce, I can't guarantee what I might do to him. He and Liliana have pushed me to the absolute edge, and even a cornered animal bites back. Me asking for a clean break isn't just for my sake—it's for Lucius's protection too."

Madeline's voice was steady.

But the fierce determination and buried resentment bled through every word.

Millicent was practically vibrating with rage. She pointed a trembling finger at Madeline. "You vicious little bitch!"

The senior maid quickly stepped up to pat Millicent's back, glaring daggers at Madeline as the older woman gasped for air.

"Sir, just let her divorce him! If she doesn't want a man as perfect as the young master, let's see who'd want her damaged goods anyway. He's been using her for five years. When the time comes, let's see if a certain someone comes crawling back to the Whitman estate, threatening suicide to remarry him."

The maid sneered coldly. "She's just using this as a pathetic tactic to force us to chase away the mistress because she doesn't have the guts to do it herself. Why would you or the madam waste your time helping her? If you ask me, she needs to fix whatever's broken inside her and give the young master a real child. That's her only job."

Madeline couldn't be bothered to argue with Millicent and her obnoxious maid. The old woman had always been entirely unreasonable and incapable of having a civilized conversation.

Besides, Madeline absolutely loathed Millicent. Ever since she was blackmailed into forgiving Leo, her hatred for the old woman had cemented.

Thankfully, Arthur shot them a warning look, and the staff quickly helped Millicent out of the room. Now, the only person left sitting in the living room was Arthur, whose face was so dark it looked like a thunderstorm.
