Madeline replied immediately: [Sure.]
Tessa was her childhood friend and had long treated Margaret as her own grandmother. She had felt incredibly guilty for being out of town on an urgent case and missing the funeral. With Madeline agreeing, the two set a time and headed out. Margaret Monroe was buried in a cemetery on the South Hill, and they arrived at the entrance in the afternoon.
Tessa held a bouquet of small pink flowers—Grandma's favorite Cosmos—and gently placed them in front of the headstone.
Suddenly, they noticed something.
It looked like someone had just visited, no more than half an hour ago, because the area around the floral tributes was still warm.
It hadn't completely cooled down yet.
Realizing this, Madeline immediately turned and ran out.
She hadn't told Tessa about her grandmother's dying words—that her origins were complicated.
Now that her grandmother had passed, the person visiting here definitely wouldn't be Lucius, who was busy being lovey-dovey with Liliana.
And since her grandmother had no other relatives besides her, there was only one possibility... it was someone from her biological parents' side.
As soon as Madeline chased out to the cemetery entrance, she saw the back of a dignified figure. The man was incredibly tall, wearing a black trench coat. The wind was strong, blowing his coat wildly. Just as Madeline was about to call out to him, he got into a black sports car and drove off.
Madeline felt a wave of powerlessness. Tessa caught up to her, instantly recognizing the car, looking stunned.
“That man you were chasing...”
Madeline said, “He wasn't Lucius.”
Tessa replied, “He definitely wasn't. He was driving the king of sports cars. Lucius probably doesn't have a car that nice. Do you think that person was here to pay respects to your grandmother?”
Madeline couldn't speak.
She remembered the incident a few nights ago when she had moved out and encountered that psycho breaking into her apartment, only for her protector to beat the guy to a pulp. Those men had said Quentin Prescott sent them.
