Glancing at the child, she opened the door and moved to the passenger seat.
Leo happily held Liliana's hand as they sat in the back, his little feet swinging with joy.
Catching a glimpse of them in the rearview mirror, Madeline thought to herself that if she hadn't miscarried, her baby would be about this age.
But there were no 'ifs' in this world.
As soon as the car started moving, Leo began bossing the driver around like a little adult. "Drop Mommy Lily off at her company first, then drop me off."
He shot a sideways glance at Madeline as he spoke. Seeing that she didn't care that he called Liliana his mom, he beamed with absolute triumph.
Madeline was getting a divorce anyway, so why would she care?
Liliana patted the boy's shoulder. "Good job, Leo. You're such a gentleman, just like your dad."
Yes, Madeline knew all too well how much of a thoughtful gentleman Lucius was when it came to Liliana.
After complimenting Leo, Liliana immediately shifted her focus to Madeline. "Madeline, please don't be mad at Lucius just because he criticized you a bit at the gala. Business is cutthroat, and to be fair, Lucius was just telling the truth."
"Was he?" Madeline found it laughable.
"The truth? Saying that you created Lightning Interactive is absolute garbage. Where were you when I was building it? You're just a glorified intern pretending to be a boss. Who do you think you are? You couldn't even graduate from a real university, went abroad for some bogus master's degree, and now you think you can handle high-end projects? You're out of your mind. By the way, I'm just a straightforward person, so my words might be a little harsh. I hope you don't take it personally."
Liliana was completely blindsided. She never expected the usually docile and gentle Madeline to unleash such a savage roast.
She wanted to curse back, but her mind completely blanked on what to say.
