After listening, Madeline asked, "What's in it for me?"
Lucius was taken aback. In the past, whenever he needed Madeline's help, she would agree without a second thought and never once asked for anything in return.
"What do you want?" Lucius asked.
Madeline smiled. "Will you give me whatever I ask for?"
"Of course," Lucius replied.
"What I want," Madeline stated, "is a divorce."
Lucius froze, yet his hand reached out for her. "Maddy, we are nowhere near the point of getting a divorce."
Lucius's long, well-defined fingers gripped the small of Madeline's back.
He rarely did this in daily life—only when they were intimate.
He loved holding her like this, his fingers pressing into her waist.
It was inherently a dominant gesture, yet it always made Madeline feel an intense sense of closeness.
This time, however, she just felt a wave of nausea and pushed his hand away.
Feeling slighted, Lucius frowned in displeasure. He warned her, "Madeline, I am worth billions of dollars. If you leave me, you will never find anyone better. Besides, I know you love me."
Lucius wanted to make one thing perfectly clear to Madeline: even if her startup succeeded and she created an incredible game, she would still just be an ordinary businesswoman. Giving up her position as the wife of a top-tier billionaire to struggle in the real world—if that wasn't sheer stupidity and asking for misery, what was?
