Right at that moment, Julian Jaxon, the resort's owner, hurried over.

"My apologies, Mr. Whitman. This is entirely my oversight. Your room with Ms. Lansbury is actually in the other wing."

It suddenly clicked for Madeline. Julian wasn't a local; he was a new player in their elite circle of wealth.

Having warmly invited all the key figures of this collaboration, he naturally assumed Lucius would be arriving with his lawful wife, Madeline, and had assigned them the grandest suite to share.

He hadn't expected Lucius to show up with his mistress instead of Madeline.

This certainly contradicted the pristine image portrayed in the recent press releases.

Madeline was the first to react. "Let them have it, Mr. Jaxon. Take me to another room."

Lucius only snapped out of his daze after Madeline walked away.

He hadn't really been in the mood for a hot spring getaway, but Liliana had complained that her depression was flaring up from all the recent online hate, begging for a relaxing trip to soothe her nerves.

Liliana's delicate voice chimed in, "See, Lucius? I told you Madeline wouldn't mind. She even gave up such a nice room for us."

Liliana pulled him inside and shut the door.

Madeline made her way out to the expansive natural hot spring pools at the front of the resort.

Just as she waded into the water, she noticed a slightly older girl dragging a children's inflatable raft into the massive, deep-water section of the natural pool.

The girl didn't even look four feet tall, but the natural pool dropped off sharply, plunging to at least six feet deep. Madeline quickly called out, "Don't play over there! The water is very deep!"

But the little girl paddled the raft faster and faster. Just as Madeline was about to go inside to fetch a lifeguard, she heard a loud splash.

The girl had fallen in.

Seeing the child thrashing wildly on the surface, clearly unable to swim, Madeline didn't hesitate. Pure instinct took over as she swam straight into the deep end, grabbed the girl, and hauled her safely to the edge.

Once on solid ground, the girl clung to Madeline, crying and coughing uncontrollably, her small face flushed red.

Madeline patted her back, helping her cough up the water she had swallowed, and gently asked where her family was so she could help find them.

Just then, a man's voice called out in a panic, "Jasmine!"

Julian rushed over and scooped the little girl into his arms.

He realized Jasmine was soaked to the bone, and catching sight of the drifting raft in the distance, it all clicked. "Thank you so much... you saved my daughter."
