It was just a habitual, superficial courtesy, entirely devoid of genuine feeling.
The biggest mistake one could make was reading too much into it.
Sebastian turned back to Brenda, delivering his decision with absolute authority. "Letting this escalate won't do anyone any good. For the sake of the Croix family's reputation, Seraphina and Cameron's engagement is officially over. We will announce to the public that they were never engaged to begin with."
Brenda's face stiffened.
She hadn't expected Sebastian to take this stance.
She had come here to demand answers and point fingers.
But now...
It seemed she had absolutely no other options.
Holding the ice pack, Raelynn looked at Sebastian's handsome, aristocratic face with a hint of self-mockery.
So, that had been his goal all along.
Using the situation to perfectly sever Seraphina's ties with the Second Branch, paving the way for her and him to be...
More legitimate in the future.
Sebastian was clearly impatient to give Seraphina a proper title...
"Mary, see our guest out."
Sebastian wasn't discussing this with Brenda; it was an order.
With that, he cast an unreadable look at Raelynn before turning and heading back upstairs.
Fuming, Brenda didn't dare voice her anger at Sebastian, the designated heir who was about to take total control of the family empire.
All she could do was shoot a vicious glare at Raelynn before leaving. "A stay-at-home wife is just useless trash. You have absolutely no skills outside the kitchen. So what if you have a pretty face? You can't compete with Seraphina in brains or ambition, and look where it got you. You deserve this, Raelynn!"
Raelynn didn't even have the energy to snap back.
Looking back, she herself felt that her years of sacrifice and wishful thinking had been pure delusion.
Raelynn went to the powder room.
She had a flawless complexion, so even though she had dodged the worst of Brenda's slap, the skin was still slightly red and swollen.
She washed the area Brenda had grazed with cool water.
She took a moment to breathe.
The incident at the hospital ER had been leaked, but she had no desire to play the scapegoat.
After asking Mary, she found out Sebastian had returned to the master bedroom.
This time, she remembered to knock. After all, this wasn't going to be her home much longer.
She had the self-awareness of a guest.
Standing by the door, Raelynn silently clenched her fists.
She tipped her head back in a moment of vulnerability, forcing her emotions down.
Refusing to play along with the rule that she had to knock like a stranger, she pushed the door open and walked in.
Hearing the noise.
Sebastian glanced over but said nothing.
The call had already ended.
Raelynn didn't spare him a second glance, nor did she care to explain that she hadn't leaked the hospital visit. Protesting would just make her look like an idiot who was helping the people who sold her out.
She walked straight to the safe, punched in the code, and took out her treasured medical books.
Sebastian's gaze lingered on her slender back for two seconds. He wasn't entirely oblivious to the fact that she was upset.
But he made no effort to ask about it.
He turned and strode back from the balcony.
But as he passed Raelynn's vanity, the manila envelope resting on top caught his eye.
He stopped dead in his tracks.

The readers' comments on the novel: Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
Literally on edge!...
No, no, no! Sebastian needs to nip the Zella situation and win Raelynn back! Also, Leo, he is a wildcard for Sebastian's master plan... Sebastian- we know you know, what we know, win your family back!...
I thought now Sebastian and Raelynn will be together now that seraphina is not but you are not letting them to be. Two new female around Sebastian 😭...
I think Ian is sly. He is not what he seems. Sebastian loves Raelyn and they have a daughter together. Besides he has no family to even take care of him. I feel Raelyn should realise that Sebastian is only her true love and go back to him....
The croix family is evil...
