Hearing Elena's words, Alaric's gaze shifted to Ivy.
She kept her head down, quietly eating her food without a single word of rebuttal against Elena.
It was as if she were letting him, her husband, make the decision.
But this was his legal wife; how could he just casually send her away?
Besides, he had only just begun to taste the sweet thrill of their intimacy, and he hadn't had nearly enough.
If Ivy left, who would satisfy him?
Alaric looked at Elena. Her?
Forget it.
Looking at Elena left him with zero appetite, zero interest, and absolutely zero desire.
So, not just any woman could stay by his side.
Ivy was an exception.
Perhaps it was because she was petite, smelled intoxicating, and had this sweet, delicate vulnerability that triggered his protective instincts.
At that thought, Alaric's gaze drifted back to Ivy.
Watching her eat with her head bowed, her plump lips parting and closing, he found her incredibly endearing.
Just looking at her made a sudden heat flare in his blood, an electric current racing through his veins that he desperately wanted to find a release for.
"Alaric, for Stella's sake, we need to keep Ivy away from her," Elena said.
Noticing Alaric staring blankly at Ivy with a slight flush on his face, Elena felt the need to speak up.
She hurriedly reminded him of her professional advice.
Alaric snapped out of his daze, gracefully continuing his meal.
It took a long moment before he finally replied.
"Ivy has her uses here. If her mere presence is preventing Stella's recovery, then that sounds like a reflection of your professional incompetence. If that's the case, I should be looking for a new doctor, not a new nanny."
Panic and urgency flared in Elena's chest at his words.
Her eyes darted nervously before she forced a firm tone.
"I will do everything in my power to help Stella recover."
Alaric placed some food on his daughter's plate and asked, "Stella, is it good?"
Stella nodded eagerly, indicating that it was delicious.
"Ivy made this," Alaric told her. "If you like it, I'll have her cook for you every day."
