Ivy agreed to Alaric's request and took the day off from the hospital.
She spent the morning at home reading, writing, singing, and dancing with Stella.
By noon, the little girl was exhausted. She curled up on the sofa and fell fast asleep.
Ivy carried her into the bedroom and tucked her in.
She was just about to check on Mr. Foster in the next room when her phone rang.
It was Elena.
Knowing exactly how vicious the woman was, Ivy answered the call with deep apprehension.
On the other end of the line, Elena was screaming hysterically.
"Do you know where Alaric is? Ivy, you tell that man that if he doesn't come back to The Starlight Estate right now, I'll kill myself right here and make sure he never gets the antidote!"
Ivy knew full well that Mr. Foster was asleep in the very next room.
But she couldn't tell Elena that.
It would only make the woman act even crazier.
She tried to keep her voice as calm as possible.
"I don't know where he is. I haven't spoken to him since I moved out. But I can call his assistant and ask."
To secure the antidote Stella so desperately needed, she had no choice but to play along with Elena's demands.
Elena pressed her aggressively. "Then go call him! Tell Alaric to come see me. If he thinks he can just hide from me, he's going to regret it."
Ivy hung up the phone.
She felt a sudden wave of sympathy for the man resting in the other room.
He was so brilliant and capable; surely he would find a way to resolve this nightmare.
She pushed open the bedroom door and walked in.
To her surprise, Alaric was already awake.
She walked over, standing by the bed, and told him the truth.
"Elena just called me demanding you return to The Starlight Estate. She said if you don't go back, she'll kill herself there and ensure you never get the antidote."
Alaric was leaning against the headboard.
