When someone strong and unshakable suddenly cried, it was hard not to be worried. At least, that was how Ayla felt now.
Was Troy crying because of her? She didn't dare think too deeply about it. Her heart was already racing.
She desperately wanted to check on him and find out whether something terrible had happened.
Even now, she couldn't stop herself from worrying about him. Couldn't stop wanting to take care of him. As long as her feelings for Troy hadn't completely faded, she would never be able to stop caring.
Ayla gently pushed against him. In response, Troy only tightened his arms around her. A moment later, she heard the steady rhythm of his breathing.
He had actually fallen asleep.
For a second, she didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
If he could still sleep, then whatever was troubling him probably wasn't as serious as she had feared. That thought eased some of her worry.
Still, he was warm. Far too warm. And he was holding her so tightly. So this was what it felt like to be embraced by Troy.
His body radiated heat. The scent of his body wash and shampoo lingered around her, familiar and comforting. All of them were fragrances she loved.
The truth was, whenever she got close to Troy, she found it impossible not to be attracted to him.
She couldn't even describe the feeling he gave her.
He had always been like a diamond, brilliant and dazzling. So bright that looking directly at him could hurt. But now, he seemed different. He seemed softer somehow, like polished jade instead of a diamond.
Lost in a maze of thoughts, Ayla eventually drifted off to sleep.
Before she fell asleep, she was still convinced that all of this had to be a dream. When morning came, Troy would return to being the cold, distant man she knew. He would break her heart completely. They would divorce, and from then on, they would go their separate ways.
...
But when she woke up the next morning, everything turned out differently from what she had imagined.
Troy was still holding her.
And in his eyes, she saw the tenderness she had never seen before.
The change left her deeply unsettled.
Troy had always been proud, aloof, and untouchable. He was a man who rarely cared what others thought, and whose heart seemed carved from stone.
Yet now, that stone seemed to be warming.
Because she had recently suffered a miscarriage and was still grieving, Troy instructed Laura to prepare nourishing meals for her every day. Not only that, he hired a new chef and a nutritionist specifically to help her recover.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
