Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 125

Chapter 125

Winter’s lips moved, but it took a second for sound to come out. Her eyes were unfocused. “I need to… go to Westbury.”

Westbury.

Zac remembered. It was her childhood home.

But she was in no condition to be running anywhere. He knew she needed rest after the shock, so he didn’t agree. He carried her to his car instead, eased her into the passenger seat, and buckled her in.

He was about to straighten up and close the door when she grabbed his sleeve with surprising strength.

As he looked down at her, she bowed her head, a low, broken sob escaping her throat. “Please.”

The word hit him like a wave to the chest. Zac’s breathing caught.

“I’ll take you,” he said.

The car rolled smoothly through the night. Winter stared out the window, silent.

Zac glanced over once. Then his phone buzzed with a message.

“We confirmed the Westbury house is in Chris Xander’s name, and Skyla Jasper is living there now.”

Zac’s expression tightened. He tapped out a quick reply, tossed the phone aside, and pressed the accelerator. Not fast, but faster.

They turned into Westbury. The homes out here sat far apart, each one tucked into its own space, private and quiet.

Zac pulled up in front of the house Winter had grown up in.

A car was already parked there.

The license plate was a string of eights. In Liono City, everyone knew what that meant. It was the very top tier of money and influence.

When Zac helped Winter out of the car, he took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders. He shifted slightly in front of her, shielding her without making it obvious.

But Winter had already seen the car.

So that was why Chris said he had no time for her interview last night. He was here with Skyla.

Which meant he knew Skyla was going to tear down the treehouse too.

Winter’s face went blank. She looked like someone who had hurt so much she had gone numb.

Then a heavy crash sounded from inside the walls. Something collapsed.

The treehouse.

Winter burst through the gate.

The first person she saw was Gavin.

His expression hardened as he snapped at the men blocking her. “What do you think you’re doing?”

Winter stood there, dazed, staring at what was left of the treehouse in the front yard. It was broken wood and scattered debris.

Right beside the wreckage was a wall of floor–to–ceiling glass.

Inside, Skyla sat in her wheelchair with both arms wrapped around Chris’s waist.
