Chapter 160
Meanwhile, gunshots rang out nonstop inside the shooting range.
Winter stood there with her face tense, gun raised. A shot cracked through the air, and at last one of her bullets hit the target across from her.
“Well?” she asked excitedly, turning to look at Roy behind her, the corners of her mouth lifted high.
It had taken ten shots for her to hit the target, and even then it was only barely on the edge of the first
ring.
But seeing the way she looked so proud of herself, clearly waiting to be praised, Roy lowered his eyes slightly and gave a faint nod.
When Winter saw him pull out his phone to type, her excitement rose again.
Getting praise from a cold-faced coach like Roy was not easy. With how sparing he was with words, she figured the most she could hope for was a “not bad.”
But the next second, Roy turned the phone screen toward her.
“Hopeless.”
Winter was rendered speechless. It was the exact same judgment he had given after testing her fighting skills the first time.
The delight in her eyes froze instantly. Then she nodded with the air of someone accepting her fate.” Okay, got it. Don’t say anything else. I know. Practice makes up for lack of talent.”
She had never been the type to pick everything up right away, but she had never been so bad at something that anyone could call her hopeless.
And now the same person had said it twice.
Was she really one of those people who were smart but hopelessly uncoordinated?
Moments like this made it seem like God really did play favorites. Chris had been given both the brains
and the physical skill.
Taking a deep breath, Winter picked up the gun again with the expression of someone seriously rethinking her place in the world.
She turned back to the target and missed the dark, unreadable look in Roy’s eyes behind her.
Just as she started to squeeze the trigger, Roy stepped forward. He took hold of her hand, which was too low and still unsteady, and through the glove, firmly pressed down on her fingertip.
Bang.
The shot rang out right beside her ear. Winter stared at the target in a daze.

There was a clean hole straight through the center.
A ten
“Roy.” She whipped around to look at him, stunned. Even with a total beginner like her holding the gun, he had still managed to guide the shot straight into the bullseye.
So when he had said his aim was just okay, he had been ridiculously modest
Roy kept his eyes on her. Her face was full of shock and admiration, and her eyes had lit up again with fresh confidence. The gloved hand at his side slowly tightened.
That perfect shot fired her right back up.
“All right,” Winter said, swinging her arm a few times and shaking out her fingers. “If I don’t hit a ten today… no, an eight… forget it, even a five… no, wait…”

Winter walked over, unzipped the bag, and pulled out her phone.
It was the fifth call Zion had made since that afternoon.
The moment she answered, Zion’s nearly broken voice came through the line.
“Ms. Scott, where did you and G go? Please come back.”
Hearing how close Zion sounded to panic, Winter couldn’t help feeling a little guilty.
Earlier that afternoon, after having lunch with Mrs. Xander Sr. at the Xander estate, she had texted Roy and asked if he could pick her up there.
She didn’t want too many people finding out she was learning how to shoot. But Zion had been sticking so close to her that she had no chance to slip away.
And with no way of knowing whether Fabian still had people watching her, she didn’t dare sneak off on
her own.
