Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 164

Chapter 164

When Winter got out of bed, she felt dizzy and unsteady, like her head was full of fog.

She forced herself to eat a little breakfast, then crawled back into bed. She figured the strange dream had probably messed with her sleep, and if she took a nap, she would feel better.

But the cold was unbearable.

It felt like it was coming from deep inside her bones, making her curl up tightly. Even with the heat running, she was still freezing.

By the end, she couldn’t take it anymore and went into William’s room to grab his comforter, then dragged it back to her bed and piled it on top of herself.

She lay there shivering all over and eventually drifted back into a hazy sleep.

She had no idea how long she slept before the pain in her tailbone woke her up again.

Her body was burning up. Her throat felt like it was full of razor blades. If she didn’t swallow, it was painfully dry. If she did, the pain made her wince.

She obviously had a cold.

Roy had been right. Steve really had passed germs to her.

Winter wanted to kill him. But right now, she didn’t even have the strength to open her eyes. Forget killing Steve. She felt like she was the one about to die.

She rarely got sick, so she never kept cold medicine at home.

But with how bad she felt now, there was no way she could go without it.

At last, her hand found her phone. Her fingers were trembling so badly from the fever that they barely obeyed her. On top of that, after holding a gun for so long the day before, her fingers were still stiff.

Through her blurry vision, she found Zion’s name in her call log and tapped it.

The ringing sounded in her ear.

Then it stopped.

The call connected.

Winter’s voice came out rough and hoarse, almost cartoonishly raspy. “I’ve got a cold. High fever. My

throat hurts. Medicine…”

Her words came out in broken pieces. It was obvious she was trying hard to explain, but even when she forced herself to speak louder, it was still hard to make out what she was saying.

Once she finally got the words out, all her strength gave out. Her hand fell limp. The call screen stayed

open, and only a few seconds later did the person on the other end hang up.

She struggled out of bed and pulled open the closet. A little while later, she crawled back onto the bed.

Her tailbone hurt too much to lie on her left side. It hurt on her right side too. Even lying flat on her back

hurt.

In the end, she rolled onto her stomach. Under the blankets, her face was flushed bright red from the

fever.

Then she drifted off again.

The bedroom door opened softly from the outside.

Something cool touched her forehead.

Just as that coolness was about to pull away, she used every bit of strength she had left to grab it and press it tightly against her forehead.

The man standing by the bed looked down at her feverish, muddled state. He had just started to pull his hand back when she clutched it even tighter and refused to let go.

“Let go,” he said coolly.

Winter only frowned and held on.

She had finally found something that made her feel a little better. There was no way she was letting it go.

Chris looked at her for a moment. He didn’t force his hand free. Instead, he slipped one arm behind her head to support the back of her neck, slid the other under her knees, lifted her into his arms, and carried

her out of the room.

In the living room, Zion was being held back by Gavin. The second he saw Winter’s face flushed red with fever, his expression tightened.

“I’ll take Ms. Scott to the hospital. Let her go.”

Chris didn’t even glance at him. He looked down at Winter wrapped in his black coat and walked straight

for the door.

With Gavin blocking him, Zion could only stand there and watch Chris take her away.

He gritted his teeth and glared at Gavin.

One of these days, he was going to have G teach Gavin a lesson.

to herself.

Chris’s dark eyes rested on the damp strands of hair stuck behind her ear. Sunlight streamed in from behind him, sharpening the lines of his face. His eyes looked cold and deep, like still water.

A nurse came in with anti-inflammatory medicine and set the tray on the nightstand.

Winter had been planning to wait until the IV was done before taking it, but to her surprise, Chris reached down and lifted her up so she was leaning against his chest.

She hadn’t worn a bra to bed the night before. After making that call and thinking she had been talking to Zion, she had forced herself out of bed and put one on.

Now it was hanging loose.

She had no idea whether the clasp had come undone while she was tossing around, or whether someone had undone it for her.

She was wearing a thin nightgown, and with the bra hanging loose, the shape of her chest was hard to

miss.

She had just started to reach for the blanket when his hand beat her to it, pulling it up over her chest.

At that moment, Chris’s phone rang on the nightstand.

Winter glanced over and immediately saw the caller ID.

Skyla.

The sweat on her skin suddenly turned cold, and a chill ran through her.

Winter pressed her dry lips together.

“I can take the medicine myself.”
