Chapter 218
Meanwhile, in a secluded corner of the Westbay neighborhood, a vicious fight was underway.
Three black sedans sped out of the neighborhood and eventually pulled up outside a villa in the South District.
Gavin pushed open the car door, stepped out, rolled his wrist once, and said coldly, “Take them inside.”
In the villa’s basement, Chris sat on a black leather couch dressed in black from head to toe. A baseball cap and a face mask lay on the table in front of him.
He was slowly peeling off the fake scar makeup from the back of his hand. When he heard movement, he only lifted his eyes slightly.
Gavin dragged one man over and threw him down about ten feet in front of Chris.
The other four were thrown down beside him one after another by the bodyguards.
Gavin stepped aside. “Mr. Xander, we brought them all in alive.”
Chris gave a quiet acknowledgment. Only after peeling off the last strip of fake scar makeup did he finally seem to really look at the men on the floor. Leaning back against the couch, his eyes were cold and hard.
He picked up a black lighter, got to his feet, and headed for the door. The light fell across the broad shoulders of his thin cashmere sweater. Lowering his head, he lit a cigarette, then snapped the lighter shut.
“It’s New Year’s Day. Don’t get blood everywhere.”
The moment he finished speaking, Gavin pulled a steel pipe from the wall, and the bodyguards closed the basement door.
No matter how loud the screams inside got, nothing could be heard from outside.
Ten minutes later, there was no blood on any of them, but all five lay on the floor like limp heaps of flesh.
Gavin tossed the steel pipe aside, took a warm towel from one of the bodyguards, wiped his hands, and went back upstairs to the living room.
Chris was sitting on the couch with a glass of liquor in his hand.
“Mr. Xander, we got them to talk. Their payment came from the border, same as the email Mrs. Xander Sr. received. We still can’t confirm whether it was the same person behind both. I already had someone look into the account the money came from. It was a dummy account.”
“The border…” Chris repeated under his breath.
A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he tossed back the rest of the whiskey in one swallow.
“Keep digging.”
Since the caregiver and bodyguard in the car had both been with her since her years overseas, she didn’t bother lowering her voice. “Whatever it is, say it on the phone. I’m on my way back to the Jasper estate. It’s not a good time for me to meet.”
The man on the other end suddenly let out a dark little laugh. “Chris Xander doesn’t know you were the one who shot yourself in the shoulder, does he?”
Skyla’s expression turned cold. She hung up at once and said to the bodyguard driving, “Don’t go back to the Jasper estate yet.”
The car turned into a quiet private estate.
The caregiver lifted Skyla out of the car and settled her into her wheelchair, then pushed her inside.
Once they were indoors, Skyla raised a hand. “Wait here.”
Then the wheelchair moved forward on its own, heading toward an open doorway on the first floor that led into a pitch–black room.
The moment Skyla entered, the door slammed shut behind her with a bang.
Then she felt something cold at her throat.
A hand clamped around her neck with brutal force.
