Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 66

Chapter 66

Their hands hung awkwardly in midair. They let out embarrassed laughs and ended up shaking hands with each other instead.

The lights and cameras were already set up.

Winter sat beside Chris, holding a microphone in one hand while placing her printed questions just out

of the camera’s frame.

Chris’s gaze swept over the script. He noticed the names that had been crossed out. Logically, the revised name should have been written beside them. Instead, Winter had drawn question marks next to every crossed–out name.

There was no doubt what the question marks stood for. They meant Chris Xander.

The interview went smoothly. Chris spoke with substance and authority. From a broad strategic perspective, he answered every question she threw at him with ease.

Winter had never doubted his capability.

In fact, the interview went more smoothly than any she had conducted in the past several years.

When it ended, Winter stood and extended her hand. “Thank you, Mr. Xander, for your cooperation. Once the footage is edited, we will send you a copy for review before it is released.”

Chris lowered his gaze to her outstretched hand. She looked entirely professional, wearing that bright, open smile as if nothing personal had ever existed between them.

He didn’t immediately take her hand.

Her hand remained suspended in the air. Awkward silence filled the space.

Just before she pulled back, his warm and strong hand caught hers in a firm grip. His long fingers wrapped completely around her hand, warmth spreading instantly through her skin.

“I appreciate your help, Ms. Scott,” he said.

“Don’t mention it,” she replied coolly. “My colleague will send it to you, not me.”

A faint, mocking smile curved her lips. She deliberately avoided looking into his dark eyes and turned away to gather her belongings.

The company had arranged a simple meal for the interview team, and the secretary who had escorted them in was ready to lead them there.

So it was just a work interview.

Ignoring Winter entirely, she signaled for her caregiver to wheel her forward and stopped directly in front of Chris, effectively blocking the path as Winter walked by.

Skyla looked up at him, her tone filled with concern laced with reproach. “Didn’t Zac tell you to rest for a few days? Why are you back at the office already? If I hadn’t called the secretary’s office to check on you, I wouldn’t have known you were pushing yourself like this.”

Her words, spoken in front of everyone, subtly revealed how much consideration he showed her.

“It’s nothing serious,” Chris replied calmly. His gaze, however, followed the figure that never once looked

back.

The elevator doors opened again, and Winter stepped inside.

Skyla sensed him shift slightly and quickly reached up to grab his sleeve. “It’s lunchtime. I’ve booked a table at a restaurant. Let’s go together.”
