Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 88

Chapter 88

The divorce agreement in the study drawer.

Chris’s grip on Winter’s shoulders tightened slowly. His eyes were deep and dark.

Maybe it was her imagination, but she thought she saw something flicker through his gaze. It was gone in an instant, swallowed by that bottomless black like it had never been there at all.

His sharp Adam’s apple moved. His voice dropped low. “It wasn’t mine.”

Winter let out a cold laugh.

She had seen that divorce agreement with her own eyes. She had already expected him to deny it. She just didn’t expect him to give an excuse this ridiculous.

“Not his? Who keeps someone else’s divorce papers in their study drawer? Did he think he was some kind of divorce lawyer?” she thought bitterly.

She laughed again, but there was no humor in her eyes. “Chris, seriously. Enough.”

When she saw the chill in his expression, she shrugged it off like it didn’t matter. “Whatever. I don’t care

anymore.

“I signed those papers, though I never even bothered to read the terms. Later, when I wanted that house on Westbury, I tore it up. If you want to say it wasn’t yours, fine. We can pretend it wasn’t. It doesn’t matter now anyway. Because even without that agreement, we’re still getting divorced.”

She said it like she was talking about something trivial.

Chris’s eyes turned cold. He tightened his grip on her shoulder and demanded, “What do you even care

about?”

“What do I care about?” Pain stabbed through Winter’s chest. Her voice came out hoarse and raw. Each word made her tremble. “Do you really not know what I have cared about for the past three years? Did you ever care enough to ask?

“If you are saying that divorce agreement was not something you prepared, fine.” Winter’s eyes were red, but a faint, relieved smile still tugged at her lips. “Chris Xander, then let me make this official today.

“I, Winter Scott, want to end this marriage. I am ending it on my own. These past three years must have been such a burden for you.”

“Take that back.” Chris forced the words out through clenched teeth. The line of his jaw tightened, and the color drained from his lips. “What do you take me for?”

Winter let out a quiet, bitter laugh. “And what have you taken me for these past three years?”

The moment she finished, she reached to the side and twisted the doorknob before Chris could stop her.

The people outside heard the sound and turned toward the hospital room at the same time.

Then she moved to block Chris. “The doctor told you not to walk for the next few days. You’re going to make your leg worse. Please, get back in bed and rest.”

William stepped in front of Winter, shielding her with a protective stance. He shot a glance back at Chris, his eyes lingering mockingly on the leg cast.

He let out a lazy, derisive snort, then glanced at Skyla in her wheelchair. “Wow. You two are perfect for

each other.” 1

Chris stared at Winter’s back like a hawk. Then he suddenly shoved Skyla’s wheelchair aside.

At that exact moment, the elevator doors opened.

Gavin turned on instinct. “Mr. Xander, Mrs. Xander Sr. is here.”
