He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 119

Chapter 119

[Daisy’s POV]

“No, we’re not,doing this again.”

Those words hung in the air and DeLuca reacted to my raised voice as his expression grew tighter.

Some seconds went by and then he spoke.

“Doing what?”

“This thing,” I said, motioning vaguely between us. “This bodyguard arrangement.”

“It’s not an arrangement.”

“Well, whatever it is.”

I stood up now.

“There is no danger here, DeLuca. This area is literally filled with students and cafés and overpriced smoothies. Nobody is attacking me on my way from school to work. Or work to home.”

His expression remained calm now. Which somehow annoyed me more.

“So why do I need to constantly report my movements?” I continued. “You do your thing, I do mine.”

Silence swept in, and then…

“You seem jealous.”

I stared at him.

Actually stared.

“…Is that what you took from all that?”

“Most likely.”

“You are unbelievable.”

“Am I wrong?”

“Yes,” I snapped immediately. “Very wrong.”

My frustration finally cracked properly now.

“I don’t care what you do with your time. Or who you spend it with. Or who fills your car. Or your parking lot. Or your social gatherings.”

The words kept spilling now.

“I just want to exist without feeling obligated to update somebody every five seconds about where I am.”

Silence.

I breathed heavily after finishing.

And waited for an argument.

Or sarcasm.

Or one of his frustratingly calm replies.

But instead, DeLuca just looked at me quietly for a second.

Then he spoke.

“Something happened at the café.”

Not a question.

A statement.

I blinked.

“You’re upset because of it,” he continued calmly. “So I’ll leave you alone to rest.”

And just like that, he turned and walked out.

The door closed softly behind him.

I stared after him.

Then immediately groaned and threw myself face-first onto the bed.

Great.

Fantastic.

Now I felt bad too.

Which was irritating because I was already busy suffering.

I rolled onto my back and stared at the ceiling.

Then another thought hit me.

Mabel had gotten close to DeLuca.

Close enough to casually pull up with his circle downstairs.

And somehow that thought irritated me almost as much as losing my job.

Which honestly felt unreasonable.

Still.

After careful emotional evaluation, logical consideration, and consultation with absolutely nobody-

I would like to politely request permission from the universe to call Mabel a cunt.

Because she was.

There.

I said it.

The universe would cope.

Right then, the bedroom door opened.

Lillian walked in carrying bags and entirely too much energy.

“Whoa,” she breathed dramatically. “Tonight was actually fun.”

I turned my head weakly.

“Hey.”

“DeLuca let me hang out with them,” she continued excitedly. “Can you believe that?”

I blinked slowly.

Oh.

So she had been there too.

Wonderful.

“And Mabel took selfies with me!” she added. “Like actual selfies.”

I stared at the ceiling again.

Looks like everybody was having fun except me.

Interesting.

Very interesting.
