Chapter 125
The chains were rude.
That was my first conclusion.
They dug into my wrists uncomfortably and then the room itself felt cold in the most disrespectful way possible.
I shifted against the chair again with a groan.
“Fantastic,” I muttered bitterly. “This is officially worse than the first two kidnapping.”
Because yes.
Technically speaking, this was my third kidnapping experience.
Which felt like a statistical problem.
The first two at least had less chains and more accidental survival. I would choose DeLuca’s accidental kidnap over this any day.
Okay, I don’t think I should be selecting kidnapping situations.
I leaned my head back against the chair now and exhaled shakily.
Everything smelled cold and netallic.
There were no windows. No clocks. No sense of time.
Just silence.
Then the door opened and I straightened instantly.
Adrian’s father entered first and two men followed behind him before another quickly placed a chair across from me.
And that alone said enough.
Authority.
The kind people rearranged rooms for.
I grew uneasy at once while he sat down slowly across from me, crossing one leg over the other.
Then finally looked at me.
“How did you come to live with my son?”
Straight to the point.
No wasted movement. No wasted words.
I swallowed.
“Okay,” I started nervously, “so the story is actually kind of crazy and unconventional because there was technically a kidnapping involved first and then there was accidental witnessing and blackmail-adjacent circumstances-”
His gaze sharpened slightly.
“Straight answers.”
Right.
I nodded quickly.
“Sorry.”
I took a breath before speaking again.
And this time, I explained properly.
About the first incident. About witnessing DeLuca. About him stepping into my life afterward. About the apartment arrangement.
About him wanting to monitor the situation personally because people had started associating me with his world.
I explained everything carefully, occasionally stumbling and occasionally rambling from nervousness.
But I explained.
And the entire time he just listened silently.
No interruptions.
No reactions.
Which honestly made the whole thing more stressful.
When I finally finished, the room grew quiet again. Then after a moment, he spoke.
