He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 191

Chapter 191

A man nearly ran directly into us.

DeLuca stopped him before he could continue.

“Where is the parking lot?”

The man pointed immediately.

“That way.”

Then he hurried off without waiting for further questions.

I expected DeLuca to follow the directions.

Instead, he walked in the exact opposite direction.

I frowned.

Apparently asking for directions and following them were two completely unrelated activities.

He led us through a side exit, crossed another corridor, and then passed through yet another exit before the hospital gradually

disappeared behind us.

The transition happened so quickly that it almost felt like magic. One moment we were surrounded by alarms, shouting, and panic. The

next we were moving between buildings while the sounds faded into the distance behind us.

It wasn’t magic, of course.

It was DeLuca.

For some reason, that possibility felt more alarming.

Eventually we reached a road where traffic continued flowing as though the world hadn’t decided to lose its mind a few streets away. Cars rushed past while I assumed we would wait for an opportunity to cross.

That assumption survived for approximately three seconds.

Then DeLuca stepped directly into traffic.

My heart nearly launched itself out of my chest.

A car screeched violently as its driver slammed on the brakes. Tires protested. The vehicle shuddered to a stop only a few feet away from Us.

“DeLuca!”

He ignored me.

The driver, however, did not.

The man’s door flew open as he attempted to storm out, looking ready to commit a felony.

“What the hell is wrong with-”

He stopped mid-sentence when DeLuca stepped toward him.

I wasn’t entirely sure what happened in that moment. Perhaps it was the expression on DeLuca’s face. Perhaps it was the fact that he was carrying an injured woman while looking completely prepared to commit several crimes before lunch.

Possibly both.

“Get out.”

The driver’s anger faltered.

“What?”

“Get out of the car.”

The hesitation that followed turned out to be a mistake.
