Chapter 201
(Daisy’s POV)
For one impossibly long second, neither of us moved.
I stood rooted beneath the shower with water cascading over my shoulders, my hair hopelessly trapped above me, and every single nerve in my body abruptly forgot that the real emergency had been my hair. A much bigger emergency had just walked into the bathroom.
Adrian.
My mind seemed determined to remind me of one horrifying fact over and over again.
I was naked.
Completely.
Painfully.
Unmistakably naked.
His reaction was almost immediate. The instant his eyes registered the situation, he turned his head away so quickly that I almost heard
the movement.
“Daisy.”
His voice came out lower than usual.
“What happened?”
The question was steady, but there was something strained beneath it, as though he were concentrating very hard on speaking and absolutely not looking anywhere he shouldn’t.
My own brain, unfortunately, had stopped functioning several seconds ago.
“I…”
Brilliant start.
“My hair…”
Even better.
“It got…”
I glanced upward, then immediately wished I hadn’t because doing so reminded me why I couldn’t move in the first place.
“It’s stuck.”
Silence lingered for a heartbeat before Adrian spoke again, still deliberately looking away.
“You called for help.”
“I know.”
“You also told me to leave.”
“I know.”
Another painful silence settled between us.
“I was panicking,” I admitted weakly. “Then I remembered I was naked, and then I panicked differently.”
To my surprise, the corner of his mouth twitched.
Only slightly.
Unfortunately, that tiny movement somehow made everything worse.
“I’m leaving,” he said quietly.
The words should have relieved me.
Instead, fresh panic surged through me.
“No.”
The answer escaped before I could stop it.
He paused.
I squeezed my eyes shut.
Fantastic, Daisy.
Now you were begging the man not to leave while standing completely naked in front of him.
“I mean…”
I took a slow breath, trying desperately to organize my thoughts into something resembling intelligence.
“I can’t get out.”
My voice became smaller.
“I’ve tried.”
I reached up carefully and tugged at my hair again. The movement immediately pulled against my scalp hard enough to make me wince.
“Ow…”
“I really have tried.”
Adrian remained where he was, still refusing to look at me.
“Can you free it yourself?”
“I don’t think so.”
Another cautious tug proved the point as pain shot across my scalp again.
“No,” I corrected. “Definitely not.”
The shower continued pouring warm water over both of us while the silence stretched. It wasn’t an empty silence, but one crowded with
hesitation, embarrassment, and two people who clearly had no manual explaining how to survive this situation.
Finally, Adrian exhaled.
“If I help…”
He stopped.
Started again.
“If I help, I will only look at your hair.”
Something about the sincerity behind the promise made my chest tighten.
Not because I doubted him.
Because I didn’t.
I trusted him completely.
That realization struck me with surprising force.
