He Didn’t Kidnap Me. Not Exactly novel Chapter 212

Chapter 212

I struggled to find another.

“Why?”

My vision blurred unexpectedly.

“We’re…”

I swallowed hard.

“We’re friends.”

For the first time since she had walked through the door, something almost resembling pity crossed her face.

“Every question will be answered.”

She idly rotated the pistol around one finger before catching it again as though it weighed nothing at all.

“Maybe later.”

Her eyes drifted briefly toward the window.

“But not now.”

When her attention settled back on me, she smiled again.

“We have somewhere to be.”

I frowned through the growing panic.

“Somewhere?”

“Mm-hmm.”

“Where?”

“I can’t tell you.”

Then she laughed quietly to herself.

“It would ruin the surprise.”

My feet carried me another cautious step backward.

“I’m not going anywhere with you.”

“Oh?”

The single syllable sounded almost playful.

“No.”

I forced more strength into my voice than I actually possessed.

“You need to put that gun down…” I pointed toward the front door without taking my eyes off her. “…and leave before Adrian gets back.”

Something bright flickered in her eyes.

“Adrian?”

She chuckled.

“You mean your knight in shining armor?”

I didn’t answer.

“In truth,” she continued almost conversationally, “I’d actually love for him to come back.”

The smile never left her face.

“This time I’d make sure the bullet finishes its job.”

Every muscle in my body locked.

The words struck harder than the gunshot.

I stared at her.

“So…”

My voice cracked.

“…it’s true.”

“Hm?”

“You did it.”

Another small smile appeared.

“That depends.”

She tilted her head thoughtfully.

“Which part are we talking about?”

“The shooting.”

I could barely force the words out.

“You were behind what happened at the stadium.”

Recognition immediately brightened her expression.

“Oh.”

She nodded.

“That.”

“Yes.”

She said it as casually as though I had asked whether she had stopped by a grocery store on the way here.

“And the hospital.”

She sighed.
