Chapter 37
(Daisy’s POV)
“This doesn’t just happen to people,” I said as Lillian dragged me across campus like I was a prize she had just won.`
“It literally is happening to you,” she replied, not slowing down. “So clearly, you’ve unlocked something the rest of us haven’t.
I didn’t see that as a compliment as my confusion bubbled.
“I haven’t unlocked anything,” I said. “If anything, I’ve been locking doors. Running through them. And almost falling out of windows.”
“That’s not the point,” she said, waving me off without wanting to understand what I was talking about. “The point is Nathan asked for you. Specifically you.”
That words hammered on my confusion further.
Specifically… Me.
“But why?” I asked.
“I don’t know- maybe this is the continuation of him acknowledging you the other day.” Lilian responded.
Right. Him calling my name that day in the hallway, leaving me in blushing shock.
“Or maybe he finds you interesting. Either way, what matters is that he’s wants to meet with you.”
I poured out a breath now in attempt to steady myself. “This can’t be a normal Tuesday,” I muttered.
“You’re telling me,” Lillian said. “I agree it’s random. But if he ever asks for me like this, I’m not even walking. I’m sprinting to him.”
“You’re already sprinting,” I pointed out as she hauled me around another corner.
“Well, I want to see where this takes us you, I mean. So just be optimistic. Okay?” She said now and I barely had time to process anything before we reached the auditorium.
Lilian pulled me further and the moment we stepped inside, the atmosphere shifted.
It was bigger than a classroom, more open, and more alive. There were people scattered across the space, mostly seniors, some on stage rehearsing something I couldn’t quite focus on, others seated, talking, moving around like they owned the place.
And then- I saw him.
Nathan wasn’t on the stage. He didn’t need to be.
He was sitting at the edge of it, one leg slightly extended, leaning back just enough to look completely relaxed, like the space had arranged itself around him without asking.
