He Gave Me Hearing, Then Taught Me What Silence Really Means novel Chapter 58

Lydia shot to her feet. "Let me come with you."

Nelson shifted the little girl in his arms, his voice freezing over. "That's not appropriate."

Lydia froze. She tucked a stray hair behind her ear to hide her crushing humiliation. "Alright. I'll have the chauffeur drop me off in the morning."

She stared pleadingly at Josie. Sensing the cue, the little girl wrapped her arms around Nelson's neck. "Daddy, I want Mommy to come too."

Nelson immediately set her back down on the floor. "Then you stay here with your mother. I'll pick you both up in the morning."

Josie pouted, clearly disappointed, but terrified of upsetting Lydia, she nodded obediently. "Okay. Bye, Daddy."

Nelson kissed her forehead. "Goodnight. Be good for your mom."

He turned to leave, but Yvonne's sharp voice echoed from the grand staircase. "You're leaving?"

"Yeah. I'm heading back to my own place."

Yvonne descended in her silk robe, immediately spotting the livid mark on his jaw.

She shot a demanding glare at Lydia, who simply shook her head in feigned ignorance.

Pure fury spiked in Yvonne's chest. "You are the CEO of Saint Corporation. Are you seriously planning to walk into the boardroom tomorrow looking like a battered street thug?"

Nelson was already at the grand double doors. "The swelling will be gone by morning."

"Don't play stupid, Nelson. You know exactly what I mean. Nobody lays a hand on the Saint heir and gets away with it."

Irritation flared in his chest. He yanked the door open. "Just put Josie to bed. I'll pick them up in the morning."

The heavy door slammed shut behind him.

Yvonne rubbed her temples, a migraine already forming from the sheer disrespect.

Josie tilted her head, her voice painfully innocent. "Daddy had red drawings on his neck."

She meant it harmlessly, but Lydia clamped a hand over the child's mouth with terrifying speed.

Yvonne froze. "What drawings?"
