Stella looked up to find that the man was the incredibly well-dressed, fashionable guy she had run into twice before.
He leaned down, his smooth voice laced with concern. "Are you badly hurt? Do you need me to help you up?"
Stella wanted to say she was fine, but the gravel had dug painfully into her palms, and her ankle was throbbing with a piercing agony. She simply couldn't stand on her own.
She had no choice but to nod. "Yes, please. Thank you."
Sebastian helped Stella to her feet and immediately noticed the injuries on her hand and ankle. "You really need to go to the hospital and have a doctor look at that. I'm actually heading there myself. Do you want a ride?"
Stella usually hated inconveniencing others, but she truly couldn't walk on her own right now. Summer Rhodes lived much too far away and would take forever to get there.
She ultimately chose to accept his kindness.
"Okay. Thank you," she said softly.
Seeing the tears pooling in the corners of Stella's eyes gave Sebastian a bizarre sense of... heartache.
It seemed like every time he saw her, she had red, teary eyes. Even though this time it was from physical pain, it still made him feel a pang of sympathy.
Sebastian didn't say anything else. He carefully supported Stella as they walked to where his car was parked, moving at a painstakingly slow pace to avoid jostling her injuries.
"I'm so sorry for the trouble. I'm holding you up," Stella murmured apologetically, feeling guilty.
"It's on my way. It's no trouble at all," Sebastian replied with a smile. "I was actually heading to Sawyer's Sweets to buy a few things. As soon as I parked, I saw you run into the road to grab that dog, and then get startled into falling by that bike."
He added jokingly, "Last time, you were crying over feeding a stray cat, and today you get hurt rescuing a dog. Are you starting to regret being so kindhearted?"
Stella corrected him with absolute seriousness, "It wasn't their fault. Besides, it was barely any effort on my part. I wouldn't call it being kindhearted."
Sebastian paused, casting a sideways glance at her, then silently helped her to his car.
Opening the passenger door, he carefully guided her into the seat, then pulled a few tissues from the console and handed them to her. "I don't have any gauze or a first-aid kit in here, but you can use these to gently dab the blood off your hands."
Stella took them, thanking him again.
