At the thought of it, Sebastian glanced down at Stella's hand. The plain silver band was still resting prominently on her ring finger.

Not long after, Sebastian pulled the car into the hospital parking lot.

He helped Stella out of the passenger seat, then guided her through registration and found a doctor.

The doctor thoroughly cleaned the scrape on Stella's palm and took an X-ray of her ankle. Fortunately, there were no fractures, just some soft tissue contusion. The doctor advised her to apply ointment regularly, get plenty of rest, and minimize walking.

By the time they finished everything, nearly an hour had passed.

"Are you heading home? Do you want me to drop you off?" Sebastian asked.

Stella had already burdened him for far too long; there was no way she was going to let him drive her all the way back.

"No, thank you. I've already requested a car to pick me up."

Stella pulled out her phone. "Mr. Huxley, how much were the medical bills? I'll transfer the money to you."

"Scan my QR code." Sebastian pulled up his profile on his phone.

After Stella added him as a contact, she asked for the total again, but Sebastian waved her off, indicating it wasn't necessary.

"Ms. Quinn, we can consider ourselves friends now. There's no need to keep track of every penny. Besides, I might need to ask you for a favor someday."

Letting a man she had just met through a series of chance encounters help her this much without even reimbursing him didn't sit right with Stella.

She went ahead and transferred him a couple hundred dollars—an amount that wouldn't insult him but should easily cover the afternoon's expenses.

"Mr. Huxley, thank you so much for today, but please accept the money. Friends should keep their debts clear. I've already taken up so much of your time; I couldn't possibly let you pay for this too."

Stella's tone held a note of unyielding persistence. "If there's ever anything you need help with in the future, please don't hesitate to ask."
