Sebastian shoved Julian back slightly and shifted into a more comfortable position on the sofa.

"It was just that woman we ran into twice before. The one who's always crying. She ran into the street to rescue a puppy today and nearly got hit by an e-bike. Since she was injured, I drove her to see a doctor."

"Her again?" Julian's eyes went wide as saucers. "Counting today, that makes three times you've run into her! Royal Oaks is a massive city, how can it be such a coincidence every single time! Seb, are you sure she isn't doing this on purpose?"

Sebastian shot Julian another eyeroll, too exhausted to even dignify the idiotic question with an answer.

Julian wasn't satisfied at all. He turned to Jarrod. "Jarrod, do you really think coincidences like this happen naturally?"

Jarrod naturally knew that Sebastian wasn't dense enough to be completely fooled.

Still, Jarrod offered a cold, indifferent warning. "Didn't you say she's married? Don't get too invested."

Recalling the sight of Stella limping out of the hospital all by herself, Sebastian let out a deeply disdainful scoff. "That absolute jerk doesn't even qualify as a husband."

"Last time, her family hit her, and she was crying all alone in the garden. Today, she was badly hurt, but she'd rather let a complete stranger help her than call that scumbag for help. A divorce is just a matter of time."

"Seb, listen to how angry you sound right now. Don't tell me you actually plan on going after her once she gets divorced?" Julian asked incredulously.

At his words, the image of Stella looking at him with utter sincerity flashed through Sebastian's mind. The way she had softly yet firmly said, "It wasn't their fault."

She had been in such terrible shape, yet it hadn't even crossed her mind to misplace her anger on the animals.

At that exact moment, something in his heart had genuinely shifted.

"Whether I go after her or not is hard to say."

Sebastian paused. "But she really is quite special."

"Oh, it's over for you. You're completely gone. Last time you said she was pitiful, and now you think she's 'special.'"
