Adrian POV
When we swing open the door, Ricky is tied up, with his hands above his head. There are six people on the floor.
“Now, Ricky,” Thalia said with a knife to his throat, “Tell me why we are being targeted?”
She pressed the knife a little more, and a small smattering of blood appeared. Aiden walked over to Thalia. “Kabar, did you get what you needed from this asshole?”
“Not yet. I think he needs some encouragement,” she said.
Aiden smiled, looked at Ricky, and shifted his hand into his claw. Ricky’s face drained.
“What the hell are you?!”
“I’m what your nightmares are made out of, little Ricky. Tell Kabar what she wants to know, or I start slicing chunks of your skin.”
I growled and shifted my claw. “I’ll help you, brother.”
Isaiah then shifted. “Don’t take all the fun for yourselves, brothers.”
Ricky started looking at the three of us. “Fine! Fine!”
The three of us stepped back. Kaia and Thalia started asking questions. “Why did Mr. Saunders put a hit on Canary?"
Ricky took a deep breath. “He believes she doesn’t have a next of kin. He wants her dead to inherit Black Enterprises.”
Isaiah grabbed Kaia from behind as she stumbled backward. Her eyes were reddening. I can’t imagine how she feels. It seems like our mates have had people that should have loved and protected them trying to kill them.
“Where do Kabar and Sin fall in this?” I asked.
“There is another party that wants them. Julian Ortega,” Ricky confessed. “Honestly, I was working both jobs separately, but I figured I would get both jobs done, get my payout, and go dark.”
Sinclair is angry. “How does he know about me?”
“That part, I do not know. I swear I don’t.”
“Truth,” Thalia said.
We all nodded, and then Sinclair went to the server room off to the side and destroyed the servers, removing only one hard drive.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!” Ricky shouted, angrily.
“You’re supposed to be bright, Ricky,” Sinclair said. “What does it look like I’m doing?”
“The Company will come for you!” he screamed.
Thalia looks somber. “Never thought the company would turn on us.”
Kaia looked over. “Yeah, they were so big about the code. We were supposed to be protected. The moment they accepted the job, the code went out the window.”
Sinclair looked out the window. “It was very unexpected.”
I held Sinclair tighter and mind-linked her. ‘I’m sorry, little sin. I see you are struggling with this. What can I do?’
‘Just hold me,’ she said.
I kissed the top of her head and held her. I didn’t let her go until we got back to the pack house. I let go long enough to help her out of the SUV before scooping her up in my arms.
“Aiden, would you mind having dinner brought up for Sinclair and me?”
“Go. Omegas will bring up the bags.”
“Thanks, brother.”
I carried Sinclair up the stairs and to the bedroom. Once there, I helped Sinclair get out of the clothes she was in and carry her to the shower. Once the water was hot enough, I brought Sinclair under the water.
“Okay, talk to me, Sinclair.”
