Looking at it that way, she had bought this breakfast with her own money, so she shouldn't waste it.
...
At 10:00 AM, accompanied by Archer, Chloe entered the consultation room.
She wore a pale yellow knit dress today, her hair draped softly over her shoulders. With minimal makeup, she looked gentle and harmless.
Just like always, Doctor White led the therapy session while Virginia sat to the side taking notes.
About forty minutes later, the session concluded. Virginia stood up and headed to the breakroom for water, but Chloe blocked her path.
They held eye contact for barely a second before Chloe spoke, her eyes flashing with undisguised warning. "Virginia, Archer is my husband now. I want you to stay away from him."
Virginia looked at her calmly, offering no response.
Infuriated by the dismissal, Chloe's eyes instantly shot with red, her jealousy spilling over. "Don't think I don't know you and Archer are secretly communicating behind my back!"
"Are you done?"
Chloe choked on her own anger, biting her lower lip as her voice turned shrill. "You already stole my parents from me, and now you want to steal him too?!"
Just moments ago, she had caught a glimpse of Archer's phone screen. She saw the transfer and the message from Virginia.
In that second, she wanted to kill Virginia.
Hearing this, Virginia felt nothing but absolute absurdity.
The transfer was simply because she didn't want to owe him anything. As for the 'chat'... if memory served, it was nothing more than a three-word payment note.
She sighed inwardly, lacking the energy to explain herself to Chloe. After all, explaining things to someone who refused to listen was entirely pointless.
Virginia stood completely still, her expression turning ice-cold.
With one arm wrapped around Chloe, Archer's eyes drifted past Virginia, his lips pressed into a tight line.
After a moment, he lowered his eyes and gently patted Chloe's back, his voice incredibly soft. "Stop crying. No one is stealing me."
He looked up at Virginia, his tone rigidly controlled. "Dr. Caldwell, you're fully aware of Chloe's fragile mental state. She can't handle this kind of stress right now. Please be more mindful."
Virginia's pupils constricted. Her grip on her mug tightened until her knuckles turned stark white.
She opened her mouth, but ultimately didn't say a single word. She simply turned sideways, leaving the hallway entirely clear for them, refusing to cast another glance in their direction.
Archer's eyes darkened. He kept his arm around Chloe as he walked her toward the exit. As they brushed past, Chloe, who was leaning against his shoulder for comfort, subtly turned her head and flashed Virginia a sickeningly triumphant smile.
Virginia saw it plain as day. Her arms trembled slightly as a suffocating wave of despair washed over her.
