"Aria, I need a little more time."
Maxwell cut her off directly.
"I have a situation to deal with at the office, so I can't take you back to your place. Let me know if you need anything."
He reached out and gently ruffled Aria's hair, the gesture overflowing with tenderness and affection.
Seeing him stand up to leave, panic gripped Aria's chest.
She grabbed Maxwell's hand like a drowning woman clinging to her last lifeline.
"Max, we've already missed out on so much time. I really don't want to wait anymore."
Maxwell stopped and turned back to face her.
"Aria, I promise I won't make you wait much longer. The situation is just a bit complicated right now, and I need you to be understanding."
Since he had made it that clear, what else could she say?
She slowly released his hand, forcing a strained smile.
"Okay."
Maxwell's phone rang, and he turned to walk out of the room.
Left alone in the sterile white room, the pure venom in Aria's eyes lingered for a long time.
Maxwell took the elevator down to the lobby, where his car was already waiting at the entrance.
He got in and glanced at Leo Thorne in the passenger seat.
"Where is she?"
Leo knew exactly who he was asking about and replied immediately, "Still at the hotel."
Hearing this, Maxwell frowned deeply, sheer displeasure flashing across his face.
"Let's go."
At his command, the luxury sedan smoothly pulled away from the hospital.
At the hotel.
It was noon by the time Maxwell arrived.
With the holiday crowd, he had to wait a while for the elevator.
As the elevator climbed to the twenty-first floor, his expression darkened by the second.
