Maxwell snapped impatiently, "Why are you still standing there? Did you not hear me?"
Arrogant and overwhelmingly confident.
All the glaring flaws she had deliberately ignored out of love were now on full display.
"Maxwell, what exactly do you want?"
Perhaps unnerved by her eerie calmness, the deep crease between Maxwell's brows didn't lessen.
"You..."
He opened his mouth, but the accusations died on his tongue.
"I came to talk to you about Aria."
Of course.
A mocking smile tugged at the corner of Lyra's mouth.
She had already figured it out when she realized her exclusive leak to the gossip blogs had never gone live.
Someone had intervened and buried the story.
"So even though you know exactly what she did, you're still going to cover for her?"
Maxwell shot to his feet, his tone icy. "Watch your mouth. Cover for her? Aria only acted out because she loves me too much. You need to know your place. You stole her spot, you owe..."
"Then sign the divorce papers."
Lyra cut him off completely.
"Maxwell, let's get a divorce."
"You don't love me, so why keep me chained to you? There's no one standing in your way anymore. Me leaving should be exactly what you want, isn't it?"
She honestly didn't want to make things any uglier.
She didn't care what kind of sick facade their so-called true romance was hiding behind anymore.
"I didn't think this through properly, but don't worry. I still have the evidence, and I will find the right moment to release it."
With that, Lyra walked to the door and pulled it open.
"If you have nothing else to say, you can leave."
