I Chose Me Over My Marriage novel Chapter 21

A sharp ringtone shattered the silence.

Lyra Lennox turned to look at the flashing phone screen on the nightstand, her gaze pausing for a fraction of a second before she strode over.

It was Maxwell Sterling calling.

She frowned, a flicker of impatience crossing her eyes.

She had already asked for a divorce. What was the point of his relentless harassment now?

Taking a deep breath, Lyra grabbed her phone and stepped out of the room, walking all the way down the corridor to the fire escape before finally answering.

"I want a cup of the coffee you make."

The moment he spoke, it was with the bossy, commanding tone of a man used to getting his way.

"Maxwell Sterling," Lyra said softly.

"Did you forget what I told you before?"

On the other end of the line, Maxwell's breathing grew noticeably heavier.

"Lyra, you're serious."

Lyra scoffed. "No matter how many times you ask me, my answer will always be the same."

This marriage, which never should have started in the first place, was long overdue for an end.

"Let's stop torturing each other."

She paused for a moment, then added,

"Don't forget your promise. You said you would agree to any condition as long as I deleted that video. You wouldn't want Aria Moon's fresh start ruined over this, would you?"

Her words were a calculated reminder. She needed Maxwell to remember that she would always hold the evidence capable of destroying Aria's career.

She refused to believe that he would cling to this miserable marriage just for Aria's sake.

Sure enough, the moment she brought it up, the man on the other end fell dead silent.

Lyra didn't wait for a response.
