Sienna Winters stood in the audience, wishing she could storm the stage and strangle Valerie Yates. Valerie was basically roasting her over an open fire. If Sienna stepped forward now, she would be admitting she was thereβand likely exposing herself as the mastermind behind this idiot's stunt.
Valerie spoke into the mic, "Mr. Kendall, I'm not targeting anyone specifically, just the frauds. Ms. Lynd knows exactly what I'm talking about. Zoe Lynd used to be a lowly secretary in the Easton Group's executive office. In five years, she contributed absolutely nothing to the company. I want to ask everyone hereβhow could someone with zero achievements over five years suddenly break into the top-tier AI circle in less than twelve months? What are the odds of that?"
Zoe Lynd stood beside Garrett Kendall, utterly baffled. She figured Sienna, who had ridden Zoe's stolen achievements to the top, wouldn't be stupid enough to let a lackey like Valerie throw a public tantrum.
"Ignore her," Garrett murmured fiercely, shielding Zoe. "Don't listen to a word she says."
"I won't," Zoe replied smoothly. "Actually, I'm quite curious to hear what else she has to say."
Garrett kept his gaze fixed on Valerie. To the uninformed, the woman's argument sounded dangerously plausible.
Nearby, Timothy Yates leaned close to Commissioner Jasper Sterling, terrified the older man might actually believe Valerie's accusations. Before Timothy could speak, Harvey Sterling beat him to it.
"Dad, that woman on stage has lost her mind," Harvey scoffed. "I consulted with Ms. Lynd at the Fort Hamilton Command Center. Her technical skills and practical expertise are flawless. Timothy and I were both there when she rewrote the fighter jet protocols, leading the senior engineers through the live tests herself. That woman is full of crap."
Commissioner Sterling chuckled, cutting his son off. "Why are you getting so worked up, kid? She's badmouthing Ms. Lynd, not your wife. Look at you, wearing your heart on your sleeve."
Timothy froze, confused by the Commissioner's jovial tone. What did he mean, 'not his wife'?
Marcus Sommer caught the Commissioner's subtle drift immediately, while Sebastian Shaw just looked bewildered.
