Those words were like a bucket of ice water, chilling Gillian to the bone.
She had already stepped back, initiating the divorce to make room for his new life, yet even after conceding so much, he was still pushing her to the brink.
Gillian stared at the man before her, finding York Foster completely unrecognizable. An unbearable, suffocating wave of despair wrapped tightly around her, dragging her under like the freezing tide.
She fought to keep her body from trembling.
"I have to give up whatever she likes? I gave up my husband, and now I have to give up my home?"
Gillian glared at him, a bitter laugh escaping her lips. "I don't love you anymore, so naturally, I can hand you over to her. But I like this house. I won't give it up. It rightfully belongs to me anyway."
This house had been purchased by her brother. After they got married, it was transferred under the Foster family's name. Back then, Gillian had been so blinded by love that she thought it didn't matter whose name was on the deed.
York's expression darkened visibly, shifting into a fierce, biting cold.
"If you don't give this house to Hailey, then there won't be a divorce. If you want out, you leave with absolutely nothing."
"Ha!" Gillian scoffed, fueled by sheer anger. "Fine, then we don't divorce. Let your precious sweetheart be a homewrecker for the rest of her life. Let your kid be branded as an illegitimate child. When Hailey gets exposed for being pregnant out of wedlock, her reputation will be dragged through the mud. Let's see if the Foster family accepts a daughter-in-law like that!"
York's face turned livid with rage. He stood up abruptly and stormed out.
The door slammed shut with a deafening crash, feeling as though it might shatter the entire house.
Gillian closed her eyes, her trembling body collapsing onto the sofa. She knew exactly why York was so furious—she had insulted his precious sweetheart.
She took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart. But the moment she opened her eyes, she caught sight of the expensive health supplements overflowing from the trash can, and the fury reignited within her.
She gritted her teeth. What an absolute jerk.
She bent down and gathered the items scattered across the floor and in the bin.
York really spared no expense for Hailey. These supplements had to be worth tens of thousands of dollars.
She yanked the front door open and took the elevator downstairs.
She spotted York leaning against his car, smoking.
The streetlight cast a glow over him, illuminating the faint, lingering handprint on his face from her slap earlier that day.
Amidst the swirling smoke, he looked like a picture of brooding solitude.
The chill of the autumn night made his tall, imposing figure seem terribly lonely.
